I came into this league with some pretty high expectations of how hard people would try to win every week. Frankly, I've been disappointed. I think an incentive program that rewards effort and removes all incentive to lose has the best long-tern result for the league.

I'll also note (and credit to Brian for pointing this out to me), that for all the harping that the worst teams must get the best draft picks, that doesn't happen when teams stop trying or when they go so far as to tank. Your final record is only an indication of your "worst"ness IF YOU TRY TO WIN EVERY WEEK!

Also, I think these ideas have to be split up into two votes. Each idea (lottery vs. toilet bowl; playoff expansion vs. none) deals with different issues and has radically different impacts. For example, right now, I like the toilet bowl idea better on that issue, but the playoff expansion idea (pending details) better on that front. Playoff expansion would work the positive of keeping middle-tier teams trying all year, but it would have very minimal impact on bottom-feeder teams - the lottery/toilet choice addresses that.

And I agree that "no change" has to be an option on both.

Also, when we have a team that has admitted tanking, how can anyone vote "there is no tanking problem"?
The reason less people try is because less people get into playoffs. Top 4 is tough as you can see... even teams with WINNING RECORDS (9-5 and 8-6) aren't getting in. The only way to get in is to become a stud team and in a contract league the quickest way to do that is.... DRAFT PICKS!!!

When a 9-5 or 8-6 team does not make playoffs... how can you reasonably expect lower teams to fight, when the only way enter playoffs is to be an ELITE TEAM (not a very good team). Open more playoff spots... offer more hope... I gurantee it will fix the "tanking" problem almost all by itself. The bottom 3 lottery is just icing on the cake.

The only support Toilet Bowl has is that it forces teams to "try their hardest", which it does, but at a detriment to the truly bad teams.

A playoff expansion and lottery.... ALSO FORCES TEAMS TO TRY THEIR HARDEST (more playoff spot on the line, etc.) but it hurts the truly bad teams.

Do not split playoff expansion + bottom 3 lottery. It is just a way to weaken the support and were proposed together to fix tanking.
