Thing is, we're not looking to pickup a game with a double header, but to instead make up for a lost one,

right now we have a balanced schedule with 6 division games, and 8 games outside the division. THe current formats allows for us to play every team in the league each year. If we shorten it to a 13 week season, someone gets cut out and we can only play 7 of 8 teams outside the division. I wouldn't be in favor of an unbalanced schedule like that personally.
