This discussion has died down and let me add another wrinkle into the mix, which I think is the best way to solve this issue... an expanded playoffs back to 6 teams.

4 teams in playoffs just makes it a very exclusive group (some may argue that's how it should be), however with that half the league is out of hope by the trading deadline. If you expand the playoffs more teams would still have a chance at playoffs thus decreasing the likelyhood of tanking.

I was talking to Mike and a Week 17 playoff sucks a whole lot. So why not start playoffs a week earlier to account for the extra games and Mike suggested to play a double header on one of the regular season weeks (possibly double up on non-division games) to make up for the imbalanced schedule.

Expanded playoffs + Bottom 3 team lottery (60/30/10) = Very little reason to tank
