Look at the extreme. How fast would a player sell if there was only one on the market at a time? People wouldn't stand for a 23rd hour raise. The fewer the players, the more quickly people theoretically should act.

That's an interesting thought. You'd almost force the accountability of getting bids in as fast as possible.
As for the nickel and diming, I think it will pick up a bit, but if I am at the upper end of a scale, or feel others are, I'm not throwing out 100 bucks to overbuy just to get my guy. The point of an auction is to get him and get him as cheap as possible.
Maybe there is some kind of rule change to think over if we feel n&d'ing is slowing things down.
