I mean...I get why...it stops owners from doing ANYTHING with RFA acquisitions for an extended period...

I can think of many reasons why an owner should be allowed to maneuver his legally owned players/roster in the fashion he deems, but I can think of no logical answers that benefit the team, owner, or league to prevent the actions suggested.

It appears at some point someone thought this was a good idea and I am curious still about the nexus of this portion of the rule.

I truly hope someone does not say that owners can't trade legally rostered players for draft picks (we assuredly can) and this rule stops that from happening because the acquired RFA is not legally rostered until Aug. I just would like someone to explain something since I can assign years any time before deadline.
