Also to add, we have a Hard Cap that begins May 1 at midnight as well. The Hard Cap runs from May 1 through October 31. During this time, the full penalty counts against the current season (which will be 2019 season beginning at midnight). On November 1st of each season we transition to the Soft Cap which splits the cap penalty against the current season and the next season. The Soft Cap Period runs from November 1 through April 30 each year.

In your example above, if you were to wait to cut Crowell until after midnight tonight, the full 224 cb penalty would count against your 2019 cap.

If you cut him before midnight, only 158 will count against your 2019 cap.
