Anyone here play Diplomacy?
Just wondering if anyone here played diplomacy?
I play online, but never get to play in person. The game just takes too long for face 2 face. |
Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
??
I have no idea what it is. |
Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
Diplomacy is one of the best strategy games ever made.
High level info: - There are 7 powers each representing a country (England, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Turkey) - Game is set on a map of Europe 1900. - Unlike Risk, Axis and Allies, etc there are no dice involved. This means that there is no luck involved. How you do is completly based on your play. - Everyone submits moves at the same time so you can't change your moves based on other peoles moves. - You can't suvive on your own. In the beginning of the game you need to make alliances with other powers (that is where the diplomacy kicks in) to fight against another power. - At some point you will need to stab your ally in the back (hopefully before he stabs you) to get a solo win. Great game. |
Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
my buddy Kendall (aka Karnage on the boards) bought this game a few years ago but we've never gotten around to playing it.

I play online with moves due about 2 times per week (sometimes play games with deadlines every weekday). This allows for lots of chatter between turns via email. |

LOL. People at work are looking at me.

Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
ill post a link tonight to where i play. (blocked here at work)
basically it is an email based game. there are "judges" set up that can read email that is formatted the correct way. so i send an email to the judge with my moves like: WAR-MOS STP S WAR-MOS In the above example: army in WARsaw attacks MOScow army in ST. Petersburg Supports WARsaw's attack on MOScow So the judge receives everyone's orders and then at the appointed time it calculates the results of everyone's moves and then email's the results to everyone. |

Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
it's not really that difficult. the basic concept of the game is real simple: "attack a province with more units then the other guy".
the syntax is real simple too and each game has a "master" that can answer questions to help you out (but he doesn't give advice on moves). once you play a turn or two the syntax is simple. |
Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
I've never played, but I like how it's like Risk without the chance element (although, it was always cool having 2 armies left and whittling down the guy on offense from like 10 armies or something). It would be all strategy. I always thought Risk was one of the best games, only thing was the time, like this one.

Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
best part is there are alliances (and back-stabbings). Thusly the name...

Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
would anyone be interested in me putting together a game?
if we can find 7 people who want to play... i would suggest that we play a few "dummy" rounds first so everyone gets the hang of the judge and the game. |
Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
I'd be interested, but what is the timeline?
|
Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
we would probably make the deadlines ever 3 days or so for each turn let it move slow.
|
Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
I have a problem of not having access to a computer on the w/e's, but that might be able to be worked around (it doesn't affect me too much here on this board). Sounds like a fun game, so count me in.

Re: Anyone here play Diplomacy?
by default deadlines are only during the week you can enable weekends, but i tend to play only on games that have weekday deadlines
