Liquid Swords acquire RB Ricky Williams from the Predators
 

Rasta boy Ricky Williams and his 4 year 165cb contract have been acquired by the Swords in a conditional, incentive based deal.

If Ricky finishes in top 15 RB's in 2005 (based on avg pts with a minimum of 8 games played by all players), the Predators will receive both of the Swords current 1st rounders in 2006 (their own and the pick they acquired from the Insects).

If Ricky finishes in the 16-20 range among RB's in 2005 (based on avg pts with a minimum of 8 games played by all players), the Predators will receive the Swords best 1st rd pick and either their best 2nd or 1st rd comp if the Swords recieve one in 2006.

If Ricky finishes in the 21-25 range among RB's in 2005 (based on avg pts with a minimum of 8 games played by all players), the Predators will receive the Swords best 1st round pick they have in 2006.

If Ricky finishes in the 26-30 range among RB's in 2005 (based on avg pts with a minimum of 8 games played by all players), the Predators will receive the Swords 2nd 1st rounder.

Finally, if Ricky finishes in the 31+ range among RB's in 2005 (based on avg pts with a minimum of 8 games played by all players), the Predators will receive the Swords best 2nd round pick (if they end up with more than 1 2nd rounder).

So, the Swords have tied up 4 1st and 2nd round picks for this deal? And if Rickey never sees the field, the Swords give up a high 2nd rounder? Is that what I am to understand?

No way Ricky makes an impact this year. BUT there's no way I'd risk 2 first rounders, even if its 0.01% likely to happen. Just not worth the risk.

Y, not my 1st choice with all the conditionals (in fact you know I'm not fond of them), but in RW's case, and at that super low salary it made the most sense to leverage the risk for both sides.

For the most part, Pat came up with the creative mix of this deal.

Mike's "risk" is that nagging voice in his head that says he could possibly get more for Ricky if he waits until Ricky actually does come back...

Ricky played damn well down the stretch, and just missed a Top 25 finish in average points among RB's playing 8 games or more.

He finished at 26th http://frenzy.predsff.com/2005/Stats9.html and as such, means the Predators will get the Liquid Swords 2nd 1st round pick in the 2006 Rookie Draft, which will be pick #8. The Swords will hang onto the Insects pick (which is still to be debated for the proper slot, but will be anywhere from 5-7).

Anyhow, pending what happens in the off-season, this looks like a win-win deal to me, as Ricky could be a huge value for under 200 cb's for the next 2-3 years, a definate asset to the Swords.

I get the #8 pick for Ricky in return, no complaints on my end, though I hope I can do something decent with the pick.
