Rookie Draft or Not

I am truly getting tired of this. I think that's why some people are not casting votes or coming to the site as much.

I understand you 'going down swinging' but you are throwing out some strong language and challenging some people's integrity, Mike. It's not fun.

You're only complaint is fairness - which can be called into question about an auction as well - because some teams plan on youth factor for future. Draft cannot be set 100% fair because we have no historical data. Neither way is "fair" And, who defines fair? Is 'fair' where you get the best of everything to win every year without question? Not a lot of fun for everyone. I would prefer taking last pick (which I had previously offered) to shut people up and to make a challenge of it.

So, here's the poll. Should the Rookies be separate (by draft, etc) or put in with the vets (during the auction)?

I am sure you are all shocked to see how I voted on this one!

Rami, You're taking things too seriously and/or personal. Cheer up.

FYI, we already held this vote... it was 7-5 against or 5-7 against (depending on how you view the votes of the 2 liberal lovin flip floppers) ;)

For what it's worth my offer to keepers still stands if he stays on the side of what is good and right and all that!!

Definitely past tense on that. This had gotten absurd a few hundred posts ago I believe. Not that I didn't have anything to do with the absurdity of course.

Not taking it either...splitting headache today and reading all this isn't helping :( .
I guess the leagues I previously played in, there wasn't as much banter. I just want to play!:helmet

Put this poll in because of the 'Flip-Flopper-Gate" we had in the previous poll. Just trying to put this issue to rest one way or the other, so we can get to the next point of disagreement:Banghead

Re: Rookie Draft or Not

Since we are close but not yet there someone (who shall remain nameless) suggested that I try and state my case for the rookie draft (since I seem to be a major proponent). I think that those of us in favor have done that but here is an effort to put it all together.

1. We are starting a league and everyone is on relatively equal footing. Having a rookie draft this year gives everyone the same chance to start to build for the future with guys that should not cost too much. Unless of course you pick a star and they qualify for bonuses!
2. A rookie draft is fun!!! No matter where you have your first pick or your last pick, rookie drafts are one of the best parts of FF in my mind.
3. No matter where your picks fall we are starting from scratch so everyone should be able to get valuable players. Whether they are active this year or down the line everyone should be able to come up with a couple of high profile players and some other prospects as well. In fact, since it seems like the only players we will not be drafting are OL we could all gets guys that were first day picks without too much trouble.
4. While luck plays a part in FF it is not limited to how the draft order shakes out. No matter where you pick you can hit or miss with a player. I traded up for Charles Rogers and passed on McGahee and we all know how that turned out. However, at the time (and until the second collarbone break) I was happy with the choice I made.

umm whatever, I'm not gonna spew drivel, you all know I'm not in favor...

FYI I do not consider a random assignment of picks for a rookie draft in any way fair, but I'll move on

WTF though, maybe I'll get some nice rooks and kick your butts even worse, if we wait till next year to draft rooks you all know I'll be drafting LATE, so I'll use this as a tool to further dominate if that's the way it's going to be! ;)

I just figured it out. You're a closet John Kerry lover. That is the only rational explanation to your fascination with him.

I'd like to also point out, if you get a rookie that will succeed right away (which might be harder than we think this year) won't you be paying for it anyway. The appeal to me of a cap league is it levels the playing field dramatically more than straight FF. I'd rather grap a veteran RB and let a guy develop for a few years.

Agreed. The part of FF that is the most fun is the draft, and with having a dynasty league, the rookie draft is the only one you get.

Not only the first day, the first round. Don't forget IDP's. There's a few LB's, DE's, and CB's that will be making an IMMEDIATE impact this year.

Should I start the "philosophical" discussion of how there is no such thing as luck? What kind of sharks are we if we bicker over picks 1-10 (as 2 folks have nominated them selves for the least desirable slots). By having a generator pick the slot you pick your slot in, "luck" (cursed word) is far removed.

VICTORY!! No more re-votes! No we just need to settle on the type of order and the random pick generation.

We gotta leave the polls open for the flip floppers to decide for sure. Maybe we should set up a poll and ask if people want to accept this poll as final, or take another as the real final poll.
