Timing...

What are the thoughts on how the timing of all this will play out. An early post seemed to have the auction some time soon, and (if it happens) the rookie draft later over the summer.

I am not particular either way, I just do not want to get caught off guard.

EDIT: Most of these other threads seem to be winding down as well, so the time may be soon...

I think we'll work on a timeline as we solidify the rules. I'd guess we'd start at auction (or a rookie draft) in a couple weeks.

If there is a rookie draft (or rookie auction), I would say to do that before the vet auction.

All that being said, I'll reiterate that I'm not in favor of of a rookie draft or seperate rookie auction! ;)

BTW randi, it's good to see your comfort level and posting increase. Get involved, we're a fun group (most the times)!

I think this makes sense (including the rookie draft which I am greatly in favor of). I am guessing the auction will be open (not limited by position) which means that it will be somewhat chaotic when the opening bell rings. I can't wait to get this rolling!

Those with experience of doing an auction in this format, how long do you figure it will take?

Mike, are you trying to say you aren't in favor of a seperate rookie draft or auction? heh

I think maybe after this weekend, the rules committee can summarize what we have voted on and see where we stand. It seems like we are pretty close to being ready to roll?

For the Auction I might propose limits like we used in the CDL the 1st year.

In the CDL each team nominated 2 players, when one of their players sold they nominated a new player. No more than 24 players were ever being bid upon at any one time.

This kept some controls on the insanity and seemed to work well.

I don't have experience in starting a new league via auction, just an establised FA auction. But my guess would be a couple months?

Was there a limit to the length of bidding time, or just the 24 hour after last bid criteria?

In the CDL it was the 24 hour rule from the time of the last bid before a player was sold (excluding weekends)... in the Frenzy we have a 48 hour rule, but we DO NOT exclude weekends.

I like 24 hour excluding weekends myself, but not if it takes another vote....:kill:

And I like the nominating 2 player, no more than 24 at a time thing.

Yeah, once one of the two players you've nominated is sold, you get to nominate another. So we would continuously have 24 players open as long as people keep up.

as commish having no more than 24 helped alot. it would have gotten insane with more than that.

once the rules are set, i would like a week of prep for the auction or draft if possible.

At least a week...good idea..

Re: Timing...

I like the 24 player rule. I also favor excluding w/e's as I do not have access to a computer on some weekends (the ones I do not work).

I would estimate a couple of months as well. If each player took 48 hours, it'd be about a month, if my math is right. But that's the ideal. I imagine it will stretch to 2 months, at least.

Also, as for the rookie part, what is the advantage of doing that first? In my mind it would make sense to establish a team and then go for the youth, rather than the reverse, but I am open to suggestions as to why it should be different.

There are a number of rookies who will make an impact this year, most likely. You can't determine who is going to fall to you in a rookie draft (if we do it random order), so it would be hard to fill any holes with the draft if we've already gone through the auction. If we ended up doing an auction rookie draft, it probably wouldn't matter as much.

Also, we have done the rookie draft in the Frenzy right after the NFL draft, before holdouts, injuries, and head cases appear. I can't say for certain this is the exact right way to do it, but that's the way it's been done. You know what they say about old dogs and new tricks.

All FF leagues hold their rookie drafts May 1st, because none of us can go more than a couple months without some kind of action, and we just can't wait until July to see how things pan out, because we'd all be kicked out of our houses by then.....:drinktoge

Didn't yet read past this post. Yes, I agree a summary would be good!

Yeah, but in our case, the NFL player draft would "satisfy that craving," and most of the rookies (with the exception of the few high profile picks) will not be making the starting line up on most teams. In that case, you would figure on having the rookie draft after your team is established.

Hey Nittany, this does not make sense to me, maybe I am just misunderstanding. Are you for or against the rookie draft first? Your first point favors having the rookies first, the second goes the other way. In my mind, I get a foudnation of veterans, then build the future (much like a expansion team would work). I could be wrong and I guess it'll come to a vote...

EDIT: maybe I should just wait until we figure out we are having a rookie draft, heh?

I'm for an early draft. I acknowledge the points in my second paragraph would make someone lean towards a later draft, but I would still disagree.

The rookie draft is the unknown. Let's look at a small sample. Say you do the veteran auction first, and as you go through you aren't able to snag two starting RBs that you are satisfied with. You then go to the rookie draft, and unless you have one of the first few picks (depending on where some guys land) you won't get one there early. If you do the rookie draft first, you'll know already if you realistically have any rookies that are going to contribute in the near future and can better plan for the more important part of the roster (at least in the short term), the active roster through the veteran auction.

I can see reasons for doing both, I just prefer the rookie first. It's not a strong preference, and wouldn't fight too hard if a majority disagreed. It's just the way I'd vote.

If we are having a separate rookie auction, don't see any reason why should have it first. As for the vet auction, would like to start ealier rather than later so we avoid summer vacations as much as we can.

Hate to be a pain, but inquiring minds what to know:

What still needs to be decided rules wise, scoring, whatever?
Can we have a summary of what has been decided?
When do we think we will start things?
Are we having the vet auction or the rookie draft 1st?

I think it was "decided" that the rookie draft will come first. I'm thinking early May to start.

Someone else will have to speak to the rules. There was a lot that was new.

I was to summarize everything this weekend and...well, it didn't happen.

I know Rookie Draft is first, then the auction will start. not sure about time frames...we need to discuss this.
