Contract Years

We've discussed increasing the cap, but have forgotten to talk about increasing the contract years cap.

Currently the limit in the Frenzy is 38 years on the Active Roster and 20 years on the Taxi Squad (the Practice Squad has no cap). That averages out to 2.111 years per player on the Active Roster, and 4 years per player on the Taxi Squad.

Since it looks like we're going with a 30 player roster and 8 player Taxi Squad, I propose the following caps

Active Roster (30 players) - 65 years (an average of 2.167)
Taxi Squad (8 players) - 35 years (an average of 4.375)

These are both slightly higher (very slightly), but the cap years are not a weird # like 63 or 32 this way.

Anyone have opinions on this?

Sounds good to me. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Re: Contract Years

I'd advocate 32 years for an 8 man TS, only because with the current 4 year average, there is really no pinch as far as contract years. I thought we wanted some strategy? With 35 years, you would really never be in a position to have to make a decision of how many contract years to assign a player if they are going to the TS (only that you would have to eventually fit them on the active roster). I won't fight tooth an nail, but I'd propose 32 or 30 years for the TS.

Well part of the Taxi Squads MO is to develop players to a degree. By going with 30 years we're limiting that aspect moreso than we do in the Frenzy, 32 years is dead on the same avg, but one of those WTF #'s instead of something like 35 which is easier to grasp (and remember) and barely raises the average.

Ummm, why is 35 easier to remember than 32?

Re: Contract Years

Eventhough there is a requirement for more starters since we are using IDPs, the increase in roster size will mean that we ultimately have more guys that we wouldn't want signed to more than 1 year in any case and we have more flexibility with who we will sign overall ... believe that ultimately more offensive players will be signed relative to defensive. So think that we should be slightly less than the numbers that have for Frenzy rather than more on a per player basis.

Thinking 60 & 30.

Also, as we go forward it will be easier to increase these numbers rather than decrease them if we find we need to make some adjustments.

agreed to keepers.... we don't need a directly proportional raise on TS and PS slots, since most people wil use them for O, unless we have some restrictions. LIke a TS for DEF and OFF, which I wouldn't mind.

But my point is that it is barely limited at all at this point. Expanding the number of years reduces all strategies. If you need me to dig up your old posts regarding "needing to make touch roster decisions" from previous years, I will. Also, if it is a bad thing to have odd numbers like a 32 year cap, why do we have an 18 man roster with a 38 year cap? Should we look into changing that next year?

Should we put this up to vote?

option 1: 65 Active, 35 Taxi

option 2: 60 Active, 32 Taxi

option 3: 60 Active, 30 Taxi

One person hasn't voted. This has not been determined. If not a winner, then we'll take top two and re-vote

Mutts need to vote in this one (vote the 2nd option (60/32) Jake so we have a consensus ;))
