Portis on the Block

Just incase you misse dthe newswire, I am officially fielding offers for Portis. Receiving (pun intended) a top tier WR is the top priority, but also looking to add a QB (preferbly a young one) and a 1st rounder.

Let's see, a top tier WR, a QB, and a 1st?

For a player with only this year and next left on his deal, particularly one already making nearly 1600 already and likely over 2000 in 2006.

What are you smoking Frank? Seriously!

This note comes from the owner who's been blasted for trying to get an even deal on the leagues #1 RB from the past couple seasons.

True, but LT had nearly 100 points more than Portis... that 100 points is what seperates the men from the boys.

Portis put up run of the mill solid RB #'s while LT put up premier #'s. You get what you pay for! ;)

BTW, I don't discount that Portis is a decent deal this year (not great by any means), but he is no bargain, and further, he verly likely will cost 2000+ in the last year of his deal next year, which is what we pay premier RB's on the open market. You're basically asking for a premier WR, solid QB, AND a #1 pick for a player that's about 200-300 below what he'd sell for on the open market for this year and this year alone. That's quite a bit IMO. ;)

BTW, I'd like to add, to get the value you're trying to receive I think you need to be talking a player like McGahee or Kevin Jones.

McGahee is making less than 900 this year and still has 3 years left on his deal. Kevin Jones is making under 600 and has 4 years on his deal. Both are solid value this year and down the road, wheras Portis is no longer anywhere near the same value.

I just thik you're trying to squeeze too much out of a solid back with only an average contract (and a short one to boot).

1 of the 3 may yet be on the high side, but closer to real value ;)

Re: Portis on the Block

Portis is far from an average back and for 1600 he's a great value. Sure his contract is up in two years and will go over 2k next year, but that's still a great value. Without having to go to the market. Ahman Green sold for 2400 and Portis is better and younger.

I don't think asking for a WR and 1st rounder is too much.
