Re: 2005 Rules Discussion

One last post, here' my beef with our scoring rules; why don't we have negative points for negative yards? IE, if a WR runs a reverse for negative yards, and that's his only carry, why doesn't he lose those points for yardage lost? Is it a scoring limitation, or is their some sort of philsophical justification for this?

I'm fairly certain past versions of FFLM could not handle negative yardage, but I think the current one can (though I've never tested it). You won't get much of a fight from me on this seeing as our scoring is set to reward/penalize everywhere else!

I am fine with this as well.

Glad to hear. I thought this was a dramatic inconsistency, but just about every league other than my local league does not deduct for negative yards in these situations, so I was sure if there was some reason for it.

I'm pretty sure FFLM handles negative yardage. I would like to see negative yardage accounted for too.

Fundamentally, it's accounted for in the RB/WR stats... unless they end up with a total negative distance. The point Brian made in the email about a WR reverse for a loss is a good one, though. I'm in favor of this.

That's exactly much my point. If an RB has 20 carries, and 19 of them are possitive, he losses the points for the negative carry by having it deducted from his net total at the end. But if he has only one carry, and it is negative, then it's not accounted for. It's a minor inconsistency, but easily fixed.

I dont think we need it. Like Jim pointed out its reflected in teh final yardage numbers.

Actually, I was pointing out that the only place it's NOT covered is on the end-around runs (reverses), where that might be the ONLY rushing attempt a player makes for the day... SO... I'm in favor of tweaking this rule to make everyone equal.

I don't like the idea, but I think its largely insignificant so I won't resist.

I'm in favor of negative points for negative yards (and I think this will hurt pocket-passing QBs more than WRs), but I'm not in favor of suggesting an end-around and a reverse are the same thing!

(how to get out of this... hmmm...) Well, when the SPLIT-END (nope)... um, the WR who's out on the END, runs around the other end (ugh)... heck, let's just stick to reverses! lol

I have no problem either way, I don't see a big deal in it.
