Week 13: Frenzy still up in the Air
One More Game to make a difference. For good or ill, you will affect the way things turn out…
East Parkwood Predators (9-4) at the Philadelphia Freedom (5-8). McAllister and Bruce really hurt Freedom this week. Martin once again pulled in some serious numbers and Leftwich was respectable. However, Tomlinson rolled, while six other players (including DT)were all in the double digits for the Predators. Prediction: Freedom’s drive to upset will fall short and Preds will take this one and keep a one-game lead in the division. ** Actual: Predators 151.85 to Freedom 104.3 -- Preds clinches the East Indiana Undead (7-6) at Royal Hawaiian Opihi (7-6) : Well, part of the Undead’s drive for the play-offs is working out. They beat the Opihi to extract some revenge for Week 11 spanking. This time, Drew Bennett stole the show with the Titans, leaving Opihi’s Derrick Mason stunned with only 79 yards. Chad Johnson also pulled in 30+ points this week against a shocked Baltimore DT (I thought they were supposed to be good). In addition to the two players in the thirties, they had six other players in the double digits. Opihi really suffered with Bulger’s injury. However, thankfully, Chris Chandler threw ONLY to Torry Holt (34.8 points). Nick Goings also went over 30 this week, but there were only three others in the double digits. Prediction: Both teams NEED this win. Opihi marks up the "W" due to tough match-ups for the Undead (must be the jet-lag from traveling to Hawaii). ** Actual: Undead 153.2 to Opihi 123.8 MidWest Jersey Toxic Waste (5-8) at Soap Box Derby Cars (3-10): McNabb vs Manning. Wow. Leads to 47.55 vs 35.15 respectfully. Nearly all those points for McNabb were in the first half, too… ‘nough said. Waste not only had McNabb, but James (32.1) and Muhammad (28.9) who pulled in some serious numbers. Derby Cars had an amazing game from Westbrook at 45.8, Rice (24.50) and Ron Curry (30.6) – who sadfully was lost for the season. However, were let down from the rest of the squad. Prediction: I think the Toxic Waste are going to pull this one out. ** Actual: Waste 167.15 to Derby Cars 148.20 Side Note: These scores are NOT usually related to teams out of the play-offs (Waste would have beat everyone this week), but this was the highest scoring game of the week. Wonder Mutts (10-3) take their league best record to face challenger Liquid Swords (9-4): Just like Favre’s streak on Sunday, the streak has ended!!! Mutts winning streak was snapped by the Swords (in a upset I called, I might pat myself on the back). Speaking of Favre, Mutts are trying to figure out what happened to him. They are happy GB kept him out to be safe, but come on, his backup threw for two TDs…why couldn’t he!?!? Dillon and TO rocked (as expected). D-Jack held on to the ball last night for 23.35 points. However most everyone else did not quite perform as needed. Swords, on the other hand probably haven’t woken up from their drunken stuper yet after a night of celebrating. Culpepper wasn’t great but enough to pull in 29.4 points. The Swords were also scratching their heads on what happened with Ahman Green vs a questionable Eagles DT. However, Eddie Kennison and NE DT both hovered about the 25 point range. Prediction: All I have to say is, dang! This is a tough call. This definitely should be a high scoring game again (like week 11). I’m going out on a limb and see the Swords pulling the upset this week (going against the numbers – actually not since the Swords have outscored the Mutts by 54.2 to date). ** Actual: Mutts 128.3 to Swords 155.70 West Nittany Dodgers (7-6) at Urza’s Ragers (7-6): Dodgers are wishing the Panthers played this way all year as Delhomme continues to put up good numbers for him. However MNF brought Julius Jones into the spotlight with 47.9 points (prior to MNF, this was a one point game). All three WR were in double digits as well. Dodgers may want to check Happy Valley in search of Tiki Barber who didn’t show up. Ragers were stunned at the lack of production by Drew Brees. Fred Taylor posted good numbers but still didn’t find the end zone. The frightening thing here was that David Akers was 1/10 a point away from being the high scorer for the team at 20.2. They have to be kicking themselves as well for playing Wells instead of Larry Johnson (35.9 points on the bench). Prediction: This will be a close game (shouldn’t be high scoring either). I see the Dodgers keeping their playoff hopes alive and repeating week 11 victory. ** Actual: Dodgers 134 to Ragers 93.65 Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers (4-9) at Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects (5-8): Squirrel Chasers made the right start to put Hasselbeck in the game (40.85 points). Houshmandzadeh is also a sleeper who has really woken up here at the end of the season (29.95 points). But, Moss and Faulk let him down on this one. Bloodsucking Insects enjoyed Alxander’s 28.15 MNF romp and Collins 34.65 outing against KC. But the best this was seeing Clinton Portis actually get 31 carries for 37.45 points. They’ve been waiting all year for him to step up. Prediction: Insects pull this one out based on RBs. Sorry for the lame write-up, but the teams need some help! ** Actual: Chasers 115.15 to Insects 137.95 ** PS. Both teams could be better if they got more consistent performance from their players. Heck, couldn’t we all. What’s amazing is with one week left in the season, there’s still so many options for the playoffs. Very nice. But, even better, some of the teams who are out of the playoffs are still good enough to alter the landscape of the playoffs by playing the spoiler! This is the way football is to be played. |
Re: Week 13: Frenzy still up in the Air
I just want to thank the Undead for helping me secure my 2nd Eastern/Peyton Division title after they knocked off the Opihi this week. Next time I see you Jeremy I'll buy you a beer! :IconDrink
I believe my Preds are the 1st Frenzy Bowl winner to make it back to the playoffs the following year and a have a chance to defend the title. It should be interesting, as the Mutts and Swords have played some good ball, and the Dodgers are coming on strong. |
