Insects Release Duante Culpepper
Culpepper Cut Loose
AP Today Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects GM Frank Alonzo announced the release of QB Duante Culpepper. It has been known for months that the team has approached Culpepper about restructuring his contract in order to relieve the Insects cap position. Culpepper did agree to have his contract restructed but the two sides were unable to agree on terms. The squabble seemed to be on how much the signing bouns would be. It has been reported by sources that Culpepper wanted $750 dollars in signing bonus but the Insects would only offer $500. With the two unable to agree to terms the Insects released Culpepper. "We just couldn't agree to terms. We just have different ideas of my market value so I guess they decided to let the market set my value," said Culpepper, "It really is sad. I liked it here in the Bay Area and we felt we could defend the championship again." When Frank Alonzo was approached on his bold move to release the superstar he cited several reasons. "First and foremost I'd like to wish Duante the best of luck and we hope we will be able to resign him. But if we are unable to then we still believe we can defend the championship and repeat. You have to rememeber Duante was injured for most of the season. In that span Steve [McNair] stepped it up and carried the team. We feel he can do it again. Also as the GM I have to look at the future with Ricky Williams, Darrell Jackson, and Plaxico Burress becoming free agents next year we just needed to clear cap room." Culpepper was slated to make $2,178 in 2002 and $2,396 in 2003. |

Remember, there is a 72 hour rule for Friday and Saturday bids, so Culpepper is still available for bidding until tommorrow afternoon. |
DOH!
Oh well whatever happens, happens. |
Looks like we're in a dog fight here!!! Hey Insects, just letting you know that I've been looking for a top 5 QB and will spend up to 2200 for Pepper.....Now that he's available;) I'll probably be cutting Bledsoe if you're interested in a cheaper option.
|
Jersey been trying to get a hold of you. I sent you an e-mail but I don't know if you got it.
I'd be willing to go higher than that to secure Peppy's services. However I can let Peppy go if I can get a QB i feel comfortable with. So how about I agree nto to up the bid on Peppy and you send me Bledsoe? That way you get peppy at a cheaper price and you don't have to take teh cap hit on Peppy? |
You two make it sound like you're the only ones after him. Hmmm...how much cap space do I have.

Hopefully the rest of us owners won't allow an "under the table arrangement" to precure one of the top QBs at a less-than-market value.
Great observation, Philly! Frenzy owners, be on guard!!! |
I already told Jersey this morning (and he agreed) that a deal like the INsects suggested would NOT be allowed...
|
Really why not?
I don't see it as collusion... more like a sign and trade. Oh well then I'll have to get Peppy or else pick up another QB. And Philly... I DO NOT WANT STEWART! Unless you want to trade me Stewart for Doug Jolley! ALSO JERSEY! CLEAN OUT YOUR PMS! YOUR BOX IS FULL! OR ELSE CHECK YOUR EMAIL! OR ELSE GIVE ME YOUR MESSENGER ACCOUNT! |
