Sam's Week 1 Notes
 

I'm baaack. Here are Sam Istician's week 1 notes:

The Indiana Undead started 1-0 for the second time in team history (’02). Their 147.5 points was the 5<SUP>th</SUP> highest score in team history. Priest Holmes’ 40.6 points was the 7<SUP>th</SUP> highest RB score in team history, and highest since Priest’s team record of 57.95 set in week 13 of 2002. Daniel Graham’s 15.2 points was the highest tight end score in team history. Graham passed Christian Fauria to become the Undead’s all time leading tight end. Daniel has 46.5 points in 8 games for the Undead. The Indiana Undead improve to 6-1 lifetime against the Freedom, and they have won the last four meetings.

The Parkwood Predators have stared the season 1-0 for the 4<SUP>th</SUP> consecutive year. They have yet to lose the opening game. Their 97.9 points was the 8<SUP>th</SUP> lowest score in team history. The Predators improve to 6-1 lifetime against the Opihi. Santana Moss passes Jimmy Smith and Cris Carter to become the Predators 3<SUP>rd</SUP> all time leading receiver. Moss has 155 points in 10 games for the Preds.

The Philadelphia Freedom have started the season 0-1 for the 4<SUP>th</SUP> consecutive year. They have yet to win the opening game. Their 131.1 points was the 5<SUP>th</SUP> highest in team history. Curtis Martin’s 41.05 points was the third highest RB total in team history. Isaac Bruce’s 21.7 points was the 4<SUP>th</SUP> highest receiver total in team history, and highest since Keenan McCardell’s 22.2 points in week 13 of 2002. The Freedom franchise has become the first to lose 30 games in league history.

The Royal Hawaiin Opihi have started 0-1 for the second time in team history (’02). Jason Elam’s 12.8 points was the 7<SUP>th</SUP> highest kicker score in team history.

The Soap Box Derby Cars have started 0-2 for the second consecutive year. Alge Crumpler’s 17.2 points was the 3<SUP>rd</SUP> highest tight end score in team history.

The Liquid Swords have started 2-0 for the second consecutive year. Their 155.7 points was the 3<SUP>rd</SUP> highest score in team history, and 17<SUP>th</SUP> highest in league history. Daunte Culpepper’s 38.95 points was the 3<SUP>rd</SUP> highest QB total in team history. Ahman Green’s 39.15 points was the 3<SUP>rd</SUP> highest RB total in team history. Randy McMichael’s 17.9 points was the highest tight end score in team history.

The Jersey Toxic Waste have started the season 0-1 for the third time in four years. Their 133.9 points was the 5<SUP>th</SUP> highest score in team history, and highest since their 139.9 points in week 11 of 2002. Donovan McNabb’s 39.1 points was the highest QB total in team history, breaking Daunte Culpepper’s previous record of 37.55 in week 2 of 2002. Edgerrin James’ 24.1 points was the 7<SUP>th</SUP> highest RB score in team history. Todd Heap’s 13.1 points was the 6<SUP>th</SUP> highest tight end score in team history.

The Wonder Mutts have started 1-0 for the third time in four years. Their 128.8 points was the 6<SUP>th</SUP> highest score in team history. Dominack Davis’ 33.45 points was the 6<SUP>th</SUP> highest RB score in team history. Terrell Owens 28.8 points was the second highest wide receiver total in team history. Antonio Gates’ 16.3 points was the highest tight end score in team history.

The Bay Area Blood Sucking Insects have started 1-0 for the second consecutive year, and third time in four seasons. Shaun Alexander’s 42.6 points was the second highest RB score in team history. Clinton Portis’ 31.55 points was the 9<SUP>th</SUP> highest in team history. The Insects take the series lead over the Dodgers, 4-3. Sebastian Janikowski passed John Carney for 3<SUP>rd</SUP> all time among kickers in the Frenzy. Seabass has 303.7 points in 35 games for an 8.7 average.

The Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers have started 1-0 for the second time in team history (’02). Their 98.15 points was the 10<SUP>th</SUP> lowest score in team history. The Squirrel Chasers beat the Ragers for the sixth time in seven lifetime meetings.

The Nittany Dodgers have started the season 0-1 for the third consecutive year. Tiki Barber’s 30.75 points was the 5<SUP>th</SUP> highest RB total in team history.

Urza’s Ragers have started 0-1 for the second time in team history (’01).

I love it how Alexander's 42.6 is only 3rd all-time in frenzy history. Just goes to show my RB sucess. Another 3rd place I'm suprised at is SeaBass ranking among Frenzy placekickers. Can anyone explain to me why he was cut? I still don't understand, but hey it turned out well for me.

Once again, excellent stuff Brian.. I'd love to know what tool you use to track all these stats. Their fantastic. You using an excel spreadsheet or something?

Shaun's score was second all time for the insects, not in the league. 42.6 doesn't sniff the top ten all time league scores (46.0 by edge is the 10th highest, you have the record with Portis as 61.9).

As far as Seabass, I cut him for two reasons. The primary reason was that I foolishly signed him to a 5 year contract a couple of years ago. I wanted the contract years for other reasons. Secondly, and relatedly, by the time his contract was up, he'd be way overpaid, and I thought he was borderline overpaid when I cut him. When the Vikes signed Conway, I thought he'd stick around and I've have a decent kicker on a much better offensive team for much less. It didn't exactly work out that way.

I do it with a rediculously manual process using excel spreadsheets. I'm embarrased how manually I do it in 2004 (though it is better than when I used Word back in the mid 90s, and no I can't explain that). Someday I'll learn how to use a database and put it all in there. Until then, I'm a mere half step more advanced than having it all on paper.

Just wondering.... if you ever have some free time, do you have the percentage handy for the scoring of positions from the past years for each team. I was just wondeirng how the percentage of scoring compared to the price is.

GREAT WORK as usual Brian. Really appreciate it. I just wanted to highlight what I thought was the most important part of your post.

It reminds me of some of the very best divisional rivalries in sports such as ..........................say the Yanks and Sox. I'll let you figure out which team is which. :Peek

I assume you mean the percentage of points scored by each position for each team? That should be pretty quick and easy. I know I could do a three year total percentage in about 5 minutes for each team. Year by year will take me a little longer.

Does this come with a trophy (a roll of toilet paper or something)? BTW, has any team won 30 games yet (I am guessing someone has but you never know).

The Predators have 33 wins and the Squirell Chasers won their 30th this week as well. The Undead are at 25, the Insects at 23, The Opihi at 22, my Dodgers at 21, the Swords at 20, and the rest who will remain nameless are in the teens win wise.

Shame... It has become a badge of honor (or horror or something like that). I figure I can hand the team over to my son in a few years and he certainly will not be able to do any worse than I have. Heck he's almost 16 weeks old and I am debating letting him pick the starting line-up each week.

Oh, well there is no where to go but up!!

Matt, I think better days are in store for your Freedom. In fact, I think you'll be in the hunt for the division all year. I like your starters quite a bit.

Is this the evil reverse psychology crap you pulled on the Opihi? Let me translate what Mike really means.

"I like your starters quite a bit." = "Your starters blow goats and you'll never win more than 5 games in a year. You will continually fight for the division toilet, as that is your destiny for now and all eternity."

I actually took that another way. I thought it meant your team sucked so bad in the past:

that this group could only do better. Either way, barring more injuries (can we expand the IR by the way) I should be better than before. What that means (in terms of wins) is yet to be seen.
