Mike Alstott now a Bloodsucking Insect!
 

The ROYAL HAWAIIAN OPIHI have reached a trade agreement with the League-Champion BLOODSUCKING INSECTS... Mike Alstott will be heading from the islands to the Bay Area, in exchange for the Insects' 2003 3rd round rookie draft pick.

The OPIHI bid a fond "aloha" to Mr. Alstott... recognizing that he didn't even play a single down for the OPIHI, after acquiring him in the RFA period. However, the Opihi management felt the need to take a flier on starting Houston Texan RB James Allen. For 405 cyber bucks, it's a gamble that they're willing to take... as it gives them another potential starting NFL RB, it frees up a couple hundred cyberbucks in cap space, AND it secures another future draft pick.

The Bay Area will confirm this trade momentarily...

Accepted.

The Champions are glad to have Mike Alstott for the rather cheap price of the last pick choice in the rookie draft. We are elated to get the big tailback's goalline carries and his between the tackle style in Tampa Bay.

We missed the oppourtunity to make an offer to Allen for the mere fact that he sucks. He's a small tailback who can't get into the endzone in an new team. I say he sucks.

We could've have after Pittman or Garner we made our offer for Alstott as we feel he'll be the tailback recieving most of the scores in his respective offense. With our familiarity with Jon Gruden and his current personel we are confident Alstott will be very productive in our effort to repeat.

Umm, this trade CANNOT be consumated without the OPIHI first assigning contract years to Mr. Alstott...

Now for future references.

Say someone in FA bids on a player but the winning bid would exceed their cap. Could they then cut an RFA with or w/o a cap hit or would they have to keep the RFA?

An RFA can be cut, but the cap hit will ALWAYS apply. The contract years are only required in a trade.

The OPIHI assign a ONE YEAR contract to Mr. Alstott... then send him on his merry way.

The OPIHI wish the Bloodsucking Insects the best of luck with their "projections," but beg to differ with their interpretation. The Buccaneers will be riding the workhorse PITTMAN, who will be the man in TB... Alstott will remain a FB who occasionally gets the rock (and even more occasionally drops it!).

Granted, the jury is still out on James Allen... but it's a shot we were willing to take, at the low, low price of 405 cyberbucks.

And by the way, I fully expect the 3rd round pick I just acquired from the INSECTS to be towards the beginning of the 3rd round, not the end! But hey, it's always good to talk up your team prior to the start of the season, Insects!
