2004 Knee-Jerk Mock Draft

While the draft is still fresh in my mind, I guess I'll try and take a stab at predicting the rookie draft. (When is it? 1 or 2 weeks from now?) No comp picks because that would be like predicting the 2nd round, which I just don't do. See as I have NO second round picks (Kinda wish I had 1).

1.1 Liquid Swords

RB Kevin Jones
The Swords have built a solid team. A Top 3 Fantasy QB, Two stud WRs, and a stud back in Ahman Green. With Kevin Jones the Swords will add backfield depth with an RB2, who will start for his team from day one.

1.2 Nittany Dodgers

WR Larry Fitzgerald
This will be a tough decision over Stephen Jackson, but I think the Dodgers are in dire need of WR help. Fitz is a STUD WR, with a coach who will make sure he suceeds.

1.3 Philadephia Freedom

RB Stephen Jackson
The Freedom's roster is practically waiting on their DS (Leftwich, Rogers, Loyld) Although, Jackson may not have been drafted into the best position to suceed this year he may follow in the footsteps of Freedom RB, Deuce McCallister.

1.4 Jersey Toxic Waste

RB Julius Jones
Need WR help, but their RBs are aging and still have question marks. Jones should start for Dallas from Day One.

1.5 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects

TE Kellen Winslow II
The team as solid starters at every position except for TE. Winslow will solidfy the position for years to come.

1.6 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects

RB Tatum Bell
We've had luck with Bronco rookie RBs, stuck behind veterans and a young promsing RB. Why not.

1.7 Urza's Ragers

WR Roy Williams
A Wonderful player this late in the draft and what's better is he fills Rager's need at WR.

1.8 Wonder Mutts

QB Eli Manning
Manning has landed in the best situation to succeed with WR Amani Toomer, TE Jeremy Shockey, RB Tiki Barber, and Ron Dayne... just kidding about Dayne. Three vary good targets to toss the rock too. A Best Player Available and need pick for the Mutts who have the aging Brett Farve, Kurt Warner, and the soon to be former Giants QB, Kerry Collins.

1.9 Wonder Mutts

RB Chris Perry
Nice pick up here. Perry is a solid player and the Marvin Lewis must like the kid b/c he drafted him in the 1st Round.

1.10 Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers

WR Rashuan Woods
Roster is pretty decimated. Drafting for best player available. The 49ers are as good with WRs as they are with QBs. If they passed on defensive studs and other WRs to draft Woods, he'll get some play and be well worth it.

1.11 Royal Hawaiian Opihi

WR Reggie Williams
Normally people would reach for RBs this far in the draft, but the WRs are so good this year it's insane. Williams will have a chance to make plays with Fred Taylor and Jimmy Smith attracting opposing D's attention.

1.12 Parkwood Predators

QB Ben Rotheswhatever
Although the Preds could reach for one of the homer picks (WR Evans and QB Losman) Ben is a great value this late in the draft. WHile I think Rivers is a better QB he has no one aside from LT to throw too. ROth will have plenty of targets to choose from and the Preds will have the Steeler QB-WR hookup with Ben to Hines.

Possible 1st Rounders:

QB Philip Rivers
RB Cedric Cobbs
WR Mike Clayton
WR Lee Evans

Summary
1.1 Liquid Swords- RB Kevin Jones
1.2 Nittany Dodgers- WR Larry Fitzgerald
1.3 Philadephia Freedom- RB Stephen Jackson
1.4 Jersey Toxic Waste- RB Julius Jones
1.5 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects- TE Kellen Winslow II
1.6 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects- RB Tatum Bell
1.7 Urza's Ragers- WR Roy Williams
1.8 Wonder Mutts- QB Eli Manning
1.9 Wonder Mutts- RB Chris Perry
1.10 Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers- WR Rashuan Woods
1.11 Royal Hawaiian Opihi- WR Reggie Williams
1.12 Parkwood Predators- QB Ben Rotheswhatever

Re: 2004 Knee-Jerk Mock Draft

Very interesting and with the talent in this draft it is hard to argue that there are many "wrong" choices. The interesting thing here is that there will probably be NFL first rounders slipping into our second round (including the comp picks). Also, interesting because someone like Rivers might make a surprise jump into the top 12 picks. Should be our most interesting (and based on the depth) most rewarding draft yet.

Intersting take, I myself rate Rivers much higher than Big Ben.

No suprise seeing Frank grab the next "Portis" for himself in Tatum Bell.. of course that is assuming Bell slides down to him. With Bell landing in a potenially great situation in Denver, I rate him ahead of Stephan Jackson (who will sit behind Faulk just like Larry Johnson sits behind Priest) and possibly Julius Jones (not sold on this kid, in fact reading a thread at FBG I aughed when one Dallas homer was whining about not only passing up the best back in the draft after their trade, but ending up with the 3rd best "Jones" RB in the draft!) Anyhow, I will not be surprise to see Tatum Bell going in the Top 5 while guys like Jackson and Julius Jones slip.

Re: 2004 Knee-Jerk Mock Draft

I think K. Jones, J. Jones and T. Bell will all be given a shot to be the starter come September. While others could emerge based on injuries it is hard to ignore that for the Cowboys to pass up all three and still select J. Jones makes me think Parcells likes the kid. I am not totally familiar with his drafting record but I think he also grabbed Curtis Martin (maybe in the 3rd). With that in mind I can see a case being made for S. Jackson (based on talent) but his situation is not great with both Faulk and Gordon already on the roster.

I did not believe it before but I think you could conceivably have 4 RB's with the first four picks. This means that there would be 4 NFL first round QB's, 2 TE's and 7 WR's still on the board.
