Question re: Development Squad Eligibility

I'm no rules expert... but I'd venture to say that since we didn't have the Development Squad last year, then the rules about the DS should only apply THIS year... meaning everyone's open & available, until you put them on your roster THIS year!

Other interpretations?

Yes I can.

The way we ended up writing the rules (posted before FA) were as follows:

Quote:

Once promoted to the Active Roster, a player cannot be placed back on the Development Squad by the SAME team during the same season (if the player is cut or traded other teams can place the player on their Development Squad, but the original team CANNOT ever have on his development squad that year).
This was the solution back in March to Matt's idea of it being a nightmare tracking when and if a player was on somebodies roster the previous year.

As long as a player meets the criterea
Quote:

0-3 years of NFL experience (Players entering their 4th NFL season are NOT eligible for the DS)
they are eligible for the DS if picked up during the rookie draft , free agency, or by trade this year.

Although this does point out an area I forgot to write that we agreed to, and that was that teams cannot move anyone from their current active rosters to the DS unless aquired by trade, the rookie draft, or free agency. I'll add that line in there as it was supposed to be.

I just ammended the rules to correct that ommission. They now read
Quote:

An Active roster player can NEVER be placed on the DS. The only way to place a player on the DS is to acquire them by trade, the rookie draft, or free agency (including Restricted Free Agency on a player that isn't matched). Amended 5/19/02
By the way, for those bidding on Amos Zereoue, he is NOT eligible for the DS as he's entering his 4th NFL season.

If you need to check a players status, go to NFLPlayers.com and do a search by last name.

Thanks for clearing that up... that changes my strategy quite a bit.
