1c Rookie Scale Follow up #3, 4th Round

As it was deftly pointed out, this probably should have been a sperate vote from the adoption of the rookie scale (sorry, the politician in me trying to attach less popular ideas to more popular ones to get them through :D ).

Anyways, if we adopt the new rookie scale, should we add a first round with salaries an bonuses illustrated in the rookie scale poll?

I think this vote should really be contingent on whether or not the supplimental compensation vote passes.

If it does I'm ok with staying at 3 rounds, since we'd be adding picks to the draft. If it doesn't pass, than I'll reconsider a 4th round, although the more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards voting no (despite the fact that I'm one of the original supporters of this idea)!.

I'm just worried a Dominick Davis or Rudy Johnson may not fall through the cracks (and thus sell much higher on the FA market) the way Dom did last year and Rudy a few years before.

Still like the idea of the fourth round but I can see where folks are coming from about the additional supp picks. Right now I will abstain until we have hammered this out a little more.

There are still only a limited amount of spots on the DS and AR. If a Dom Davis and Rudi Johnson aren't in the picture at hte begining of the season, teams still have to decide how long they want them taking up space on the DS.

I don't think this vote should be contigent on the supplimental picks idea, at least it is not for me. That is because I think supplimental picks should have a lower value than Mike does, and thus, should be less common (at least we shouldn't set up a system when the non-matching situations become more common just for the sake of getting more picks).

I think if there is an issue of being too many picks in the draft, then the supplimental pick idea should be scrapped before the 4th round is scrapped. Supplimental picks reward teams with talent. Draft picks based on final standings help level the playing field.

I think with the new rookie salary scale that many more rooks or 2nd year players are going to make active rosters, which will open up slots on the DS. And seeing as the only way to get on the DS is through the draft I'd bet many of these 4th rounders would find a home for at least 1 season if not 2.

That being said. I'm gonna withdraw my negative vote and abstain still I see more votes cast and commentary posted.

Well, I'll be one of the few owners with "kahunas" enough to actually TAKE A POSITION on this poll...

We could have 20 rounds of draft, for all I care... the spots on our rosters aren't going to change. We'll still have the same number of "actives" and "DS" players. Because there's no penalty for cutting a player you've drafted prior to the start of the season, I see no reason why we can't add a 4th round... regardless of what happens with the supplimental picks.

But that's just me... ;)

I've decided to stick with my no vote (for now at least).

Now, about that trade for Priest Holmes & Chad Johnson... ;)

Ypsilanti Undead March 4th, 2004 07:59 PM

Please! Picking up Chad was the only truly good move I've made in this league!

Mutts March 4th, 2004 08:05 PM

And dropping him was probably my worst! :Banghead
