Convert to True Position for IDP? **PASSES**
 

There is a lot of discussion in this thread about MFL recently majorly overhauling IDP positions that appear to be out of whack with the positions players are actually taking the majority of their snaps at.

MFL themselves are now saying in their Operational Policy "We strongly recommend against using the site’s player positions for your league’s official positions"

This is a poll to convert IDP positions using an online script called "True Position MFL Tool" created by a Twitter user called Sticky. The tool appears to use PFF as a source for positions with tweaks based on snap counts. Looking at the tools conversions compared against MFL, it seems to handle the Edge position much better, properly assigning most as DL whereas MFL is categorizing many of these players as LB.

Since this poll is posted BEFORE the Rookie Draft has started, a majority vote is all that is required to pass it.

Voting 'Yes' with the assumption that this rule is simply setting the 'True Position MFL Tool' as the Source that we will use for IDP Position..

Understand the 'assign IDP Positions' part, but this does not indicate whether or not manual override would be allowed if another site states differently.
That is where the 'assumption' comes in. That we are setting this to the source for ALL IDP and not allowing a manual override if another site states differently.
My comment was simply to remove any ambiguity regarding the final source for IDP positions.

JK, I get your point about trying to omit ambiguity. This poll is to make that tool our official source. The FAQ states they don't make changes during the season, so positions are locked in at the start of the season.

#Smile Actually, I write software specs and as part of my current job. I need to remove any chance of ambiguity in the specifications for my software products. Otherwise, the developers code what they want. So, I usually try to close any holes in the logic. It's just how my brain is wired.. #Pirate

So I don't think this should be "locked in" for the entire season. Say a LB is out for rest of season, and they transition a DB to play that LB spot, then I'd say we would manually adjust in season like we have done in the past for other players.

But then again, maybe this doesn't apply to defensive players, especially when it comes to these Edge defenders.

Reading the FAQ, positions will be locked for the season. This is part of what we just voted on, so no manual changes. From the FAQ, it does not appear that they update their site in-season.

Right. MFL has always been that way. Once season starts they don't adjust positions. However, we have in the past if players change positions during the season (e.g., Ty Montgomery and Cordarrelle Patterson WR to RB).

I am fine with in-season changes, but what site do we use. If the "True Position" site is not updating during the season, where do we go to determine player positions during the season.
I'm good either way regarding locking in the IDP positions. But we need to understand that it appears that this site will lock them in

There's no locking in of positions. The True Position can be used to update "EDGE players to DE's and all interior players into DT's." This tool can be used to adjust the positions on MFL so we don't have to manually adjust a bunch of them during the off-season. Once the season starts, just like MFL, this tool will not be updated so any changes after the season would need to be manually adjusted. In the past, I believe we have used the team's depth charts for positions during the season. With offensive positions, it's pretty clear. With defensive positions, especially these Edge defenders, it may be tougher to tell as they may be listed as DE or OLB.

Does it need to be run weekly?

It looks like it can be run once at the end of pre-season. Requires MFL login credentials and I think the script is automatic from that point on.

It can be run as many times as needed before season. Someone who has MFL admin credentials should run it. I would suggest running prior to off-season UFA to make FA lookups easier in MFL. Then run again prior to start of season.

I submitted SACD for conversion and set it up to automatically run whenever a position push is made to MFL that conflicts with true position, it will run and correct. They don't do updates in-season, but this should keep us pretty close to current true position throughout the off-season.

It looks like it's already run (I think).

TJ Watt is now listed as DE - No longer LB.
Can I rely on this going forward or will True Position change his position back to LB again? He is shown as LB on both NFL.com and ESPN.com and any where else I looked.
I need to be able to plan my roster with a dependable (and consistent) position list.

Has it been an issue in past seasons with IDP player positions changing like this or is this something new?

BTW: Not complaining about Watt moving to DE (DL), would love to play him there.
Just need to know if I need to draft LB at spot 1.10 to fill the empty LB slot that Watt left..

I thought it was based on number of snaps they play at a position? So who can predict how the team will use him?

Since the season started, we can run this one last time.
Looks like there were 15 additional players that were adjusted.
