Post Season Free Agency Question
My question is regarding the open bidding on Mayfield. Since the bidding started before the end of the regular season (wk14), but the bidding is still open, does he fall into the post season rules or regular season rules?
The way I interpret the rule, Mayfield would be a Post-Season acquisition, regardless of the start of the bidding process on him - and fall under the post-season rules. Am I interpreting the rules correctly? |

Re: Post Season Free Agency Question
My stance would be that the rules treat this as an “in season” acquisition based on bid start, not end. I read the revised rules as specifying this exact situation.

Thank you for the clarification

Re: Post Season Free Agency Question
We've been through this many times before. A UFA opened prior to the end of the season is a regular season acquisition and open to bidding by all teams regardless of playoff status.
A player opened after the start of that players week 14 game would be a playoff acquisition and limited to 1 year contract (not eligible for RFA or Franchise Tag) and only eligible to be bid upon by playoff teams. |
Re: Post Season Free Agency Question
Agreed. In-season. That gives the teams who were bidding on him a chance to add him, regardless of their postseason status.
