2021 Rookie Draft COVID-19 Impact

If the 2020 season is impacted by COVID-19 by some type of cancellation, how should we handle the 2021 rookie draft? We may want to determine what to do in different scenarios - full season cancellation, partial season cancellation, or any other scenario we can think of.

If full season, maybe random draft order or based on last three seasons' combined record?

If partial season, maybe based on partial season record?

We should probably start addressing this since this could impact future draft pick trades if one of these scenarios takes place.

Re: 2021 Rookie Draft COVID-19 Impact

I think a 3 year average would be good to determine 1-12, then maybe a weighted lottery for the top 3 picks from the 3 worst teams over that 3 year average.

For partial season, I would add the records to the 3 year averages we would use if it was a complete season cancel.

I like the averaged 3 seasons for a full season cancelation (or a less than partial season).

Also like using the partial records for the partial season.

But I think we would want to define what a partial season is.
If the season goes for 3-4 weeks, I don't think we should count that as a partial season. I think we need to go at least 1/2 season (7 Frenzy weeks) to call it a partial season. Anything less would be a full season cancel (or something like that).

I think we would also want to address the Contract Years and Salary increases. If it's less than a partial year, do we hold contract years and salaries in place for the following year?

I could go with the proposal. I would say a season without playoffs is a partial season.
Also if season cancelled, do we still roll over years and salaries? I would say no

I agree with Dave and Burt. If a season is cancelled at some point, and we don't complete Frenzy Playoffs, then freeze salaries and contract years and everything repeats in 2021 as if 2020 never existed. Only difference would be another rookie draft based on the 3 year records for teams as well as any 202 weeks played.

I also like the idea of a weighted lottery for the top 3 picks among the 3 teams with the 3 worst records.

So to summarize.....
(sorry guys, I write specs as one of my jobs duties, so I like to make things clean and consolidated. - it's what I do - LOL).

A Full Season = Frenzy Championship game played and Champion crowned...
Anything less is a Partial season.

So far we have....
If Partial Season:
1) Contract Years and Salaries remain (do not roll forward) (See Comments below)
2) 2021 Rookie Draft Order will be determined as follows:
* Last 3 seasons combined Regular Season Record
* Add record for 2020 games played
* Rank 1-12 by percent win/loss
* Bottom 3 teams will be put in a weighted lottery (method TBD)

Comments:
If we lock the 2020 season contract years and salaries, we need to consider the following:
* RFA will not occur - no player's contract will expire - or do we have a modified RFA - allowing players with 1 year contract to be put out - if the owner wishes?
* Contract years will be tight. If players are not reduced by a year, then adding new Draftees could make things tight - do we allow a short period to drop players without penalty or a reduced penalty?

I like the proposal, just wanted to bring these points up for discussion.

makes sense to me.
I think we should allow a shortened period to drop players w/ reduced penalty, if it gets to that.

If we do it as proposed, I really feel like it would be a huge advantage for 2 years in a row to get top picks as it was when I started to get Gurley and Zeke. It had me dominate the regular season for 2-3 years straight.

Maybe the whole thing should be a weighted lottery to give some chance to teams that did well last season.

I honestly think thats jumping the gun, but what ever you decide, my interest is dropping fast.

I would be against anything weighted for the whole league to be in a lottery...yes, Bee was fortunate to get 2 guys who panned out well, but that is not always the case. The lower teams earned the right to draft earlier...you want early picks then stop winning championships...lol

I'll stick with my 1.12 draft slot

That's one reason I suggested a weighed lottery for the bottom 3 teams.

I think the teams that have been here the longest and never won the title should go first. Then we could have the teams with the most franchise titles at the back. If no one else agrees (and I can't imagine anyone would since I am probably the only 0 for 20 team) then I would be willing to entertain any of the ideas already put forth :)
