Blind bids?
Suppose I'll stir the pot, or at least be the squeaky wheel. Certainly it's been brought up before. Certainly there's a consensus against it.
The two things that I don't enjoy about the FA system we employ. "Defensive bidding". If owner A needs to fill a position between weeks, it's unbelievably easy for owners B through I (J? K? whatever) to either prevent owner A from landing said player. How? Just min-bump every 23 hours. One week is not much time. Yeah, I understand the reply: If you don't want to get bumped, you need to come in large.I remember back in the day when Yahoo! leagues were by default FCFS at all times. If you were fortunate enough to be watching the moment Priest Holmes went down, you would lose your league if you weren't first to log on and pick up Larry Johnson. People realized that rewarding always-onlinedness wasn't a healthy way to run leagues and it's far less common to find FCFS than back in the day. I play in plenty of other leagues that use FAAB using blind bids. As long as you can make time to put in your bids during the week, no one is at an advantage. This format puts those who can't check in frequently at a disadvantage. 14 years ago, the message board method of bidding made sense as it was our best option. Is it still? |
Re: Blind bids?
I can see doing this during the In-Season and Post-Season FA periods. I am not sure I would be for it during the off-season.
And would it just be one shot per week...you get a guy, or your out of luck? What happens if I need to get a LB for one week, since I have one dinged up and questionable, and two on bye, so only one starting. Do I bid on multiple players, and hope I only win one? Do I bid on one, and hope I win him? After BB is run, would all players be open to FCFS at 100cb? What are the details in your other league? I guess we need more info on how this would work. |
Re: Blind bids?
I like the idea and would like to know more details. I agree with Burt that this is not needed and may not work in the off-season when bid deadlines are nebulous.
potentially you'd be trading lengthy bid times with the need to bid on multiple players and eat cut costs when you pick up 3 100 cb lbs for you bye week fill in. Presumably tie bids go to the higher waiver priority? Maybe limit the number of bids per week - with exemptions/additions to that number in weeks you add a player to IR. |
Re: Blind bids?
I am on board with exploring this idea more and can see Burts point about in-season bidding but I am also TOTALLY in with Doggler and his frustration with defensive bumps, marathon bidding and those annoying bumps that are ONLY placed to raise the price (not because the bumper even remotely wants the player)

Re: Blind bids?
Oh I feel the frustration also with the bumping...I HATE you all during the off season bidding frenzy ;-)
But I would not want to completely change the structure of the league...I still feel the bidding wars to build your team in off season is the best way to do this, and is the core of the league. |
