All owners (esp new owners) should check rosters to make sure to avoid penalties by the end of MARCH...some players can be elevated to ACTIVE ROSTER possibly against your wishes...just check your team before 1 APRIL...

Maybe give the newest new guy a tiny break???

Correct Chuck...here is the pertinent sections from the Rule Book:

Contract years expire on March 31st each year at midnight. Beginning April 1, all players who had only one year remaining on their contracts become either Free Agents or Restricted Free Agents. Players with expired contracts can be re-signed by their original team under the terms outlined in the Restricted Free Agent rules (see Item 9C below). All other players have their contracts reduced by one year. At the same time, all teams recover any salary encumbered by players waived during the year.

There will be a SOFT CAP period that runs from November 1 through March 31 each season. Players released during the SOFT CAP period will have their cap penalty divided equally between the current season and the next season.

A HARD CAP period will ensue from April 1 each season (the beginning of the next season and new contracts) through October 31 each year. Teams will be assessed a cap penalty as described above for players released during this timespan.

Taxi Squad players entering their 4th season of NFL experience are considered part of the active squad as of April 1st of the year in which they will be starting their 4th season. They are automatically promoted to active on April 1st.

The concern is that we may be mixing up Practice Squad and Taxi Squad at times...Mike seems to think that PS guys should not be promoted based on years or any other automatic vehicle...I thought one of my guys got promoted from PS (Geno Smith), but I may be wrong that he was on PS...I can't believe he was drafted (previous owner) prior to 4th round...maybe I am just pissing in the wind on the Smith thing since he sucked so bad and was on my team...lol I swear he was on PS not TS...regardless, I get the rule here...

Mike also said that the SOFT CAP date was moved to 30 April and the HARD CAP start was moved to 1 May to account for later rookie draft in real NFL...there was a vote that passed unanimously??? Im old and dont remember...just a quick confirmation by another head honcho would be good since the date is approaching...

Yeah, we discussed a lot in a short 90 minute play date...lol

Geno Smith was taken in 2nd round by Greatshepski, who sadly yes, was known for some peculiar picks. So he was never PS qualified. Thus the automatic move up to active.

Soft cap doesn't end until April 30th. New season starts May 1 as per the unanimous schedule shift vote last off-season.

And PS players are automatically released if their contract ends. They do not promote to active status.
