IR guidance..

Can we ship a guy straight from IR to cut without putting back on team with cap and year worries???

Sat the Pats activated, but didn't dress or ID Lewis at all...since the week started Thur, I would guess this is ok...not sure...I only have to add back in half his salary and I have plenty of years, but the rules are a bit vague on technique with IR guys...it's not a simple process and much is not covered...help??? What day injury report is used to identify possible IR candidates??? How long off IR before I have to act on him??? This is not the minimum 4 week kind of guy - he was hurt before season so out 10 weeks already, do I still have 4 more weeks on IR??? See, not simple...I may keep him, I may not...

You can always cut someone from IR. I think Lewis has been on your IR all season. You still have to take the cap hit, though. Or am I missing something that you're asking?

Yes, I know the cap hit applies...when do I start getting a penalty for leaving him on IR??? How do I "know" when I have to legally take him off IR??? What tells me he is healthy enough to force action on him??? The reason this is hard is that he has been on IR all season and I am not sure how the 4 week minimum applies if at all...if the Pats weren't such butheads in relation to reporting injuries, it might be easier...for instance he practiced all week, but wasn't activated until Sat...to which the Pats didn't have to officially mention him on their weekly inj report...for goodness sakes!!! So now I may get in trouble with a fine or some sort of Armageddon penalty because I don't know WHEN I have to move on him...I have zero info to base a move anyway...yet on my roster it says in red, "Possible roster violation"...don't like it...paranoid maybe...

Ignore the MFL message. Lewis can remain on your IR for the rest of the season if you want. There is no time table for moving a player on IR to active in our league. Nor is there a penalty for leaving him on IR.

what Patrick said.

Can we IR a suspended player?

Re: IR guidance..

As Pat says we have no mandatory rule that players must come off IR when healthy, you can let him ride out his contract on IR and completely avoid any cap penalty by letting his contract expire in the off-season.

No that was specifically addressed in the rules at some point. Suspensions are not an allowable reason for IR.

10. Injured Reserve

Each team has a maximum of two (2) injured reserve slots. For a player to be put on IR he must be listed as Questionable, Doubtful or Out on any NFL.com weekly injury reports. Suspended players are NOT eligible for the IR. Any player placed on IR must remain on IR for a minimum of 4 weeks. By the start of the next rookie draft, each franchise must clear IR and have no more than sixteen players on their roster. Once a player is placed on IR, the club can pick up another player but they must go through the free agent channel as with any other pick up.

When a player is placed on IR, 50% of their salary will count against your cap (either active or DS, depending where the player was before the IR move), teams will also receive 1 temporary "contract year". This temporary year may be used at the discretion of the team for signing a replacement, etc. As soon as the injured player is removed from IR, the temporary year is revoked and the team must immediately return its roster to a total of 36 contract years.

The 1st available date will be a flexible date each year that basically commences the day after the 3rd pre-season games end (4th for the few teams that play 5). This will be approximately 7-10 days before the NFL regular season kicks off.

Injured reserve contract years (36) needs revised to 38 for consistency with rule 7C. Contract Years which reads:

"There will be 2 types of Contract Years Caps per team, an Active Roster Cap which is 38 years (5 max/player), and a Taxi Squad Cap which is 20 years (5 max/player)."
