2017 Rules Discussion - Last minute Friday night bidding

I don't like this recent trend of waiting to place a last minute bid on Friday night at 11:59pm.

I would propose that any bid between 11:55pm and 11:59pm gets a 5 minute extension. Thus an 11:59 bid would still allow others 5 minutes to raise that bid. Each subsequent bid would then extend the bidding another 5 minutes. Once a 5 minute period expires with no bids, the player is considered sold. These extensions would then have a sell time of 11:59pm regardless of how long the extension bidding lasts.

Thoughts?

I think all you've gotta do is: 1) big much higher earlier, so you guarantee winning... or 2) bid the player up on Saturday and he doesn't sell.

I agree with Jim. Bid earlier and bid higher. Not a fan of a midinight bidding war that could extend out significant amount of time in the early hours. These bids have hit many of us. Part of the game strategy, fun/and or disapppintmnent. Sometimes it works out for the better, others it doesn't.

I was expecting someone else to use this strategy in this "unique situation" (possibly a one week start where extending the bid might not be a good play). What happens if more than one bid is submitted at 11:59?

How is that any different than last minute bumps, or bumps on Saturdays to keep player active through the weekend? Its all within the rules - sucks but part of legal strategies...

Whoever is the last 11:59pm bid trumps any 11:59pmm bids prior.
