CUT QB Tom Brady, NE (1yr/2700cbs)
36 Chambers has ceased production on Tom Terrific's Greatest Adventure.
In an interview with BSPN, Brady cried, "I feel deflated." http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/...33_468x407.jpg |
Re: CUT QB Tom Brady, NE (1yr/2700cbs)
Had I not been able to bring Brees back at a 50% discount I would be pretty upset with this move.
I just read through the rules and they state, "RFA's cannot be traded prior to the start of in-season free agency (August 31st). The team winning the rights to the RFA (either the tendering team if they decide to match, or the highest bidding team if the tendering team declines to match) cannot trade that player until the start of in-season free agency has begun." I realize this was a drop and not a trade, but I feel this should fall under the same conditions. I also understand the reasons why the Swords chose to do this, but what is to stop a team from doing this if one of their tendered players goes to a particular owner and they don't want to compete against that player in the same division, etc. Not to mention that it could completely change the strategy for the manager winning the bid. They think they have to go another direction only to find out that the person is available later in off season free agency and not having the cap space to do anything about it. As I said, it means nothing to me now and I believe it to be harmless, but none the less seems shady. |

RFA cuts have happened before, and I see nothing in the rules to prevent them. I have no issue with it, but if you feel strongly enough, bring it up for a vote. I can see either side.

The cut cost me 540cbs. Of course, anyone could have put in a claim, but no one did because his value takes a significant hit with the 4 game suspension.

You can also cut any RFA you retain or win at any point and pay the 20% penalty. These players ARE waiver eligible. So yes, theoretically a team could match and later cut to play keep-away from the winning team, however, that player can just as easily be claimed by the team that had won the bid (and have a reduced penalty should they cut the player at a future date). Meanwhile the original tendering team gets no RFA compensation and faces a 20% cut penalty if not claimed, or 10% if claimed. It's never been an issue in 15 years of the Frenzy, or the 10 or so years of SACD. |

I'm not suggesting that anything was done wrong or against the rules. Just having this happen to me for the first time and at a primary position it became visible to me and at first glance seemed shady. Something to keep in mind for the future. Guess it is part of the strategy of the dynasty game.
