Discussed this with Mike. We will deal with Claims the same as if the players were signed during post season. The claiming team only gets the players services through playoffs. This does not matter with Willis, who only has one year left...but if he had multi year deal, you would only keep him through playoffs.

The 1st year penalty is still refunded for 50% to team dropping player.

It's basically the same thing as picking up FA in post season...cannot make them RFA's, and only get to use their services through playoffs, so only 1 year contract...

So, the way I understand it I should be awarded Willis for the remainder of the playoffs and he will go to UFA next year. Which would defeat the purpose of the forward thinking I was doing, however I do understand that all teams not in the playoffs are locked and cannot bid on players.

I think I will take him for the rest of this season regardless, I have the cap and year room to keep him. As long as I know I will have a shot to try and get him next year, if desired, I will be ok.
