Draft could start in the morning

It looks like McCaffery will sell tonight (a hex upon anyone who bids on him again) and since he is not being matched the Freedom are calling a press conference for tomorrow morning at 8:30 EST to announce the first pick of the draft. Unless of course someone comes through with a blockbuster offer for that pick.

Urza's Ragers May 19th, 2003 04:18 PM

What are you looking for?

Detroit Wyverns May 19th, 2003 05:45 PM

Matt,

The draft will NOT start until the Rules Committee says it starts so hold your horses.

Just when you thought it was safe to start the draft...

Woot! - The draft started the day the Freedom traded up for 1.1. You can chose to ignore it for a while, you can stop the formality, but far as I know we're rolling!!

And with their first pick in the Frenzy, the Llamas take :moon:

:toast:

Llamas:retard Power!

Press Conference delayed

Though the Freedom would be happy to announce what they intend to do with the first pick in the 2003 rookie draft their news conference has been cancelled.

Team owner Matt Marshall expressed his decision when he said, "Though we are ready to go, there are too many distractions, with the possible change in the rookie salary scale, DS changes and other things. For what it is worth we set ourselves up looking at the current rules. We feel it would be patently unfair and harmful to make changes on the eve of the draft. However, the final decision is not ours and until this issue is resolved we are going to hold off making any kind of formal announcement."

I think we should vote on it before we come even close to the draft!

Philadelphia Freedom May 20th, 2003 08:39 AM

Agreed, we need to have a vote or two here at some point soon. Anyone else want to chime in.

Mutts May 20th, 2003 09:39 AM

There is a compromise on the table.

Royal Hawaiian Opihi May 20th, 2003 01:12 PM

Let's solidifiy the compromise, then... get it on a poll... and vote!

Royal Hawaiian Opihi May 20th, 2003 01:15 PM

Sorry... didn't realize there already was a poll! My bad. Voting now!

Preds May 20th, 2003 02:45 PM

There are 2 polls actually, the most recent involves eliminating the cap on the DS and making it for draftees only. Brian came up with this idea and I think it has merit and resolves the issues of rookies growing in to their contracts on a number of levels.

Here's a link to that poll...

Please vote ASAP.. the sooner we're finished the sooner we can get on with the draft.

Jersey May 20th, 2003 03:45 PM

how about keeping the rookie at his salary until we place him on the active roster. Give a player 3 years on the DS but considering we all think the salaries are to high anyway...why not give each player 3 years max on the DS and once he's activated his rookie salary starts

Royal Hawaiian Opihi May 20th, 2003 04:42 PM

I like the idea of not accelerating the contracts of rookies on the DS...
