What is the claim period? Is it 24 or 72 hours?

I just got back from the Caribbean. If I can still put in a claim on Olsen I will. I believe I'm #2 on the WW claim list.

In season is 24 hours and off season is 72 hours. I am assuming that it is 24 since the new league year started but I am not really sure.

In Season starts April 1 of each year, so yes, should be 24 hours...

ACTUALLY FOLKS... I believe that "In-Season" is when we have to make the designation on all draft picks and RFA/FA acquisitions (after the third week of the preseason). I distinctly remember waiver claims during the summer always being 72 hours... so much so, that I often forget that it changes to 24-hours "in season."

Here's the reference point in the rules...

Granted, that date changes... but the basic gist is that "Off Season" is pre-NFL draft to most of the preseason. IN SEASON is when designations are made & we get ready to actually play the season.

Here are some historic "2011 summer waiver claims" that lasted 72 hours...
LaDanian Tomlinson
Derrick Mason
Willis McGahee
Mohammad Massaquai

Having said that, the PREDATORS' claim was outside the 72-hour window... Olsen was cut at 4:35am on the 12th & Mike made his official claim at 12:30pm on the 15th. He missed the window by about 8 hours. Bummer.

The In-Season Free Agency period begins at 12:00am ET the same evening the Off Season UFA period ends

Eh no worries, guess I did indeed miss the 72 hour window so my claim was irrelevant.

Good luck with Olsen, Nate. I think 228 is a very good price for him and expect good production from him this year, especially with Cam Newton having a year of NFL experience under his belt.

Yep. I probably would have given up my one and only 2012 draft pick for him. I really like him with Cam, especially with Shockey retired.

He had a slow 2nd half last yr....maybe he can put together a full season.....price was good
