Post season roster moves: NEW POLL
 

How should we run post season roster moves? Should we end the bidding for all players on midnight Saturday, or should we make no changes?

I say we end on Saturday but to prevent bid sniping we have some sort of last chance.

Say the "winning bid" is placed between 11:40 PM- 12:00 AM

THEN

Owners who have PREVIOUSLY posted a bid on the thread have until 12:10 to make a last offer.


Something like this should keep bid sniping to a minimum.

I like that suggestion... I'd also be worried that owners could wait until 11:59pm and come out of nowhere to bid on a player, that the previous bidders would gladly have "upped" the bid, had they known this late bid would come in.

Maybe we can do something like Ebay... where we (somehow secretly) submit our "absolute final won't possibly go any higher price"... and then it keeps getting pushed up the minimal increment, based on other bids.

For example, I want player A... and I'm willing to ultimately spend 1250 cbs on him... but I'd love to get him at 100 cbs. So I enter my 100 cb (with the 1250 ceiling). Then Mike, who doesn't really need the guy, but just wants to yank my chain, at 11:50pm bids up 500 cbs (maybe with a ceiling of 750 cbs). Since my max is higher than his bid (and his max), the bidding would actually stand at 800 (saying we have a 50 cb bid increment) to me. Then if Mike wanted to try and "up me" again, he'd have to guess at where my "max" was and up it. Say he bids 1000 cbs... the current bidding price would be 1050, because it still hasn't reached my max.

The problem with this system, is unless we can borrow Ebay's software, we have to have someone who can monitor the "absolute final won't possibly go any higher price" bids, and keep the website updated accordingly.

However, it's the most fair.

And we can still have a midnight deadline on Saturdays.

Does this make sense to people?

I acknowledge that bid sniping potentially could be a problem. However, since we have reduced our playoff pool to four teams, and the playoffs will only last two weeks, I really think the odds of something happening are really small. I think we can wait and see how it works for a year before we decide if we need to encumber the rule even further.

I'm sorry, I have no sympathy for someone who leaves themselves open to bid sniping. If your bid is sniped, you either got out-muscled by someone with more cap room, or you decided the player wasn't worth your full spending potential. Or you're a moron. I don't think any special provisions need to be made.

Agreed. I think we should all learn from Mike's bidding strategy during the final week that there is no reason to underbid a player in the post season. You can't sign 'em long term, so why bid less than you can afford?
