There is no renegotiation in the Frenzy League. If it's a free agent that was picked up by another owner, then traded... that owner must declare the contract years before a trade is made, otherwise it's a one year deal. If that hasn't been done here... then I'll allow the trade to be voided... have the owner declare years... then redo the trade. Sounds nit-picky, but that's the rules. HERE's the exact spot in our rules... Quote:

Sorry... I originally missed this on August 9th when the trade went through.

Re: Reds and The Great Shep agree to trade
Rules are rules.
Perhaps this one needs changing, however. I couldn't come up with a single reason why the acquiring owner shouldn't be allowed to set the years as part of the trade. Does anybody have any insight what's value-added from requiring the 'selling' owner to do it? Seems counter-intuitive. Anyway, if Shep is still on board with this, I will be glad to formally declare Celek with a two-year contract. His post setting the years was immediately after the trade, so it's not like he was gaming the system by waiting. |

As for the value, just a matter of contract timing. Before a player is traded the contract needs to be finalized. Otherwise, it is hard to trade a player who is technically not under contract. PLUS, the FA still needs to fit in under both the SALARY and YEAR cap before they are traded. If you only have 2 years available and want to assign the FA 5 years before trading him no can do. |
Re: Reds and The Great Shep agree to trade
Celek was a UFA acquisition on 5/23/11. I processed this on the roster app shortly after the trade was accepted. Reds had the required contract year space available.
I interperated this trade as the 2 years being the declaration of contract years for Celek. Yes, in the future the contract year assignments should be posted in the original trade thread, but I see nothing wrong with this trade and year assignment my :2cents: |

Re: Reds and The Great Shep agree to trade
Off the top of my head here are two ways to get around this problem with the current rule still in place.
One: assign five years in the trade thread, be over the cap and get back under the cap within the allotted time frame by trading. Two: if your trading partner wants five years on the contract for player X and you only have two available, you can first trade him Player Y with a three year contract. Then you assign five years to Player X, complete the original trade, and he returns to you Player Y in one more trade. There are probably even more workarounds, but clearly this supposed purpose is not achieved. Any other guesses? What is being accomplished by requiring me to state "Celek - 2 years" and not allowing Shep to do it instead as he confirms the trade? |
Re: Reds and The Great Shep agree to trade
I guess there will always be loopholes that the intelligent people playing in our leagues will be able to find.
I agree though, and I also think this rule is a silly one, and would welcome any input to changing it to make things more 'realistic' with what actually goes one. I was just trying to explain the justification behind what the rules intent was (or at least what I assume Mikes intent was) We just have to make sure it does not 'seem' to be a Renegotiation, as we all now how people in this league view that word ;-) |
Re: Reds and The Great Shep agree to trade
Good morning! It's 9am here in the islands... I'm in my office for the day & am getting up to speed on this thread.
The rationale behind the rule is as has been stated. In order to sign a team, a team must have contract space AND salary space. Of course, if you know you will be trading a player, can ask the new owner how many years he'd like BEFORE the trade... as long as you have that many cap years available on YOUR squad. Reds, the "workaround" scenarios you suggested would be fine. However you want to manage your roster within the set rules works. This shouldn't be a big deal. I'm going to allow the previous deal to be voided & redone with two years, as long as the originating owner had space. No penalties or infractions will be levied at this time. It's all good. |
