24 hour clock interpretation
 

A continuation of the 24 hour clock from Michael Clayton bidding....should the 24 hour clock be consdered passed at the exact time the next day, or a minute later?
i.e Tuesday bid at 3:54pm ends Wednesday at 3:54pm or 3:55pm?

I think I have to agree with Burt's logic from the original thread. It seems like seconds shouldn't make a difference, but in this exact example, they really do. This is why we argue what-if scenarios.

I mean his seconds analogy goes both ways. If I had placed the bid at 5:44:15 and then the next bid was at 5:44:25 seconds it would be over 24 hours.

However we are only limited to minutes so we either have have to assume that a bid placed at the same minute is either in time or not.

Here is the language per the rule doc (need to highlight cause its in white):

When a bid is submitted, it will be subject to a 24 hour "challenge period" during which time other teams may make counter-bids. This period begins at the time of each bid or subsequent bid. The exception to this is Saturday bids. Since bidding is suspended from Saturday until Tuesday, bids made before 12pm Saturday will not be final until 12pm Tuesday. If no higher bid is received within the challenge period, the bid is a winner and the transaction will take place.

It's not a big issue to me, but I would interpret the rule that 5:43 is the last time a bid can be made.

The rule specially states the "challenge period" BEGINS at the time of each bid/each subsequent bid so by extension it must END at the time of each bid not after.

I agree with Frank.

Since posts are restricted to hour and minute, if a bid is placed at 5:44pm Tues, then a bid must be placed by 5:43 Wed to reset the 24-hour clock. A bid at 5:44pm Wed would be over the 24-hour period.

Since I'm the cause of this situation my logic has to support my position. I responded within the 24 hour period. if the decision is the bid has to be made before the final minute we have a 23 hour 59 minute clock to respond to bids (maybe this is what we want).

I'm ok either way as I'm still learning the rules

I am fine with either decision, but I would like to know in case this were to happen again.
I agree with Frank as well. My interpretation of the rule was once the time was equal to 24 hrs after bid it was over...not more than 24 hrs after the bid.

OK, well so as not to prolong this any longer, and it seems we have a split, I am going to go with what Mike intended the rules to be, and say the clock expires at the same minute, 24 hours later. Makes sense, since we have no second hand on our clock here....
