Playoff Expansion - 6 or 4 teams?
 

Hey guys just wondering thoughts on playoff expansion?

Currently we send 3 division winners and 1 wild card to playoffs.

I think it would be great for the league to expand to 6 teams playoffs (3 division winners/3 WC) as it will increase league activity during the year. With more teams able to make the playoffs means there will be more buyers than sellers in the trade market. This means trades to help contenders and the lottery teams. It also will keep owner interest longer if they know they have a chance at playoffs deeper into the year, which indirectly curbs against tanking.

The only downside is.... changing the status quo.

This is just an informal vote to see if it is worth discussing ways to implement playoff expansion.

I would be in favor of playoff expansion to 6 teams AND keeping the the Week 16 championship. This would mean we'd either cut the regular season short 1 game or else we can play a double header (ideally 2 non-division games) for one week.

Looks like we have 4 yes votes and 1 maybe.

Honestyly I don't have a preference. Your points are valid, but I'm also ok with only having 1/3 of the league make it to the playoffs instead of half the league.

I agree that a 6 team playoff is the better way to go. The top two teams get bye, so the better teams are still rewarded but it gives teams that might have a rough start a chance to still get in the playoffs.

Wow we have a 0-7-1 majority?

Here's my proposal for 6 team playoffs.....

Regular Season
14 games in 13 NFL Weeks. One week double headers of non-divisional games.

Playoffs - 3 division winners, 3 wildcards (Top 3 records - no division cap)
Week 14 - 6 teams, #1 and #2 get a bye week.
Week 15 - 4 teams
Week 16 - Championship game

We still get 14 games in and we still have the Week 16 Championship.

OK, it looks like every one is interested in this....I will compose a formal poll, with how things would shake out...Frank and I discussed how we felt this would work best, so we'll put it up as such, and if anyone has a better idea, keep it to yourself....
