Frenzy off-season changes

Hey gang,

I was going to wait until the end of the year to announce this, but now that the website issues are forcing some decisions to be made, I thought I best say it now.

I'll be retiring from Frenzy at the end of the season. I do love this style of fantasy football (dynasty league), but I think the league just hasn't been enjoyable enough to me, when weighed against the time investment.

I will continue to fulfill the duties I volunteered for (rules issues and monitoring player bidding, in conjunction with Jim) for the rest of this season. Also, I will do everything in my power to setup a new owner of this franchise with a core of a team that can be competitive next season. Although my team will probably be the worst in the league this season (due to my bungling of my off-season plans), I do think a new owner will be taking over a solid core in 2009:

RB Chris Johnson (plus handcuff) - 4 years @ $462
RB Brandon Jacobs (plus handcuffs) - 1 year @ $464
WR Anthony Gonzalez - 3 years @ $290 (he'll be huge once Harrison is gone)
probable 1.1 draft pick (note that I didn't trade it away this time ;))

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

As with Jason, I was hoping to delay any decision/announcement, but with the issues recently brought up, I might as well make my decision now so all who need to make a decision on the future can take everything into account. I also will not be returning to Frenzy next season.

I have thuroughly enjoyed my time in the Frenzy. It is a hard decision to leave, but things just aren't the same for me now as they were in 2002 when I joined. I don't have the time I need to invest in this league to maintain a competitive team (as witnessed by this past weekends events). The league just does not offer me the enjoyment it did in years past, so I am not motivated to dedicate the time necessary.

I'd like to be able to say I'll be leaving the next owner a solid core as well, but I've screwed a bunch of that up. I will remain active for the rest of the season, doing my best to make a run at the playoffs.

Wow.

So you beat me once and don't give me the chance to avenge my only loss thus far?!?

You've both been great owners... and an asset to the league. We're going to miss you, both. Seriously.

Damn. Said to see you both go.

Mike and Brian? 2 founding owners and probably the two have put in the most time! Please stay guys.. it won't be the same.

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

I blame it on the divisional realignment. Putting all those Viking fans in one division was suicide!

;)

Nah. I was a fiesty SOB for several years before I got to 40... then had a few years as the kinder gentler Preds, and now I'm back to a fiesty opinionated SOB who won't hesitate to speak his mind and won't take crap from anyone.

That's right!

My lifetime record will end somewhere around 7-18, but you'll never have a winning record against me!!! (1-1 lifetime) :D

All your Championship trophies will have to soothe your pain ;)

I feel like my influence is wearing off... you gotta get me back into one of your leagues, Mike! ;)

Hah, so it WAS you that made me go soft!

Honest, I really am pretty easy going these days.. it hasn't worn off completely, but there are a couple things that get me hot under the collar... in retrospect I deleted what I wrote and decided to leave well enough alone, so maybe there is still some influence there!

Thanks for thinking so, but I actually wasn't a founding owner. I was just loud an opinionated at the begining that I'm sure some people thought I thought I ran the league. :D

I will definitely miss the league. The chemistry and variety of the owners is quite unique.

Should stick around.

We clashed many times but it's all good. Having differing opinion is always good.

I agree, you 2 should reconsider!!

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

Well, I better do this now in case it tips the scale for anybody.

I also will not be returning next season. I love the format but I have serious concerns about the future of this league with Brian and Jason leaving, and with the website shutting down at the end of the year. If Frenzy does manage to continue in some form, I wish you all the best of luck.

All that being said, I intend to make the most of the one season I am here.

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

Wow?

I'm getting pissed here. The 3 MN teams busting out on us after we re-aligne dthe division so they can all play nice?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That's almost like a slap in the face to the league, IMO.

There's obviously something else going on here. If that's the case thanks and good bye.

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

I apologize on the re-alignment issue. Things changed after that. Knowing what I know now, I would not have pushed for that if I could do it all over again.

At the time, I thought it was a great idea and I fully intended to be around long enough for it to be worthwhile. Sorry. I didn't mean for it to turn out this way (I push the change and then leave). I don't blame you for being highly annoyed at that result. I do feel bad about it :(

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

Sorry you feel that way, Frank. Just to echo Jason's words for the most part, I was in support of the realignment for the long term enjoyment of the league. If I had known at the begining of the season I would feel as I do now, I also would have not supported realignment.

I am in no way trying to perverbaly "slap the league in the face" as you say. I think by announcing our intentions now, in advance, so people can make whatever decisions they need to, it is quite the oposite. I can understand you would be upset in the moment, but I would hope that after looking at it again, you would agree.

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

Does anyone else think this is mirroring our current economic crisis on Wall Street?

LOL

I'm in it for the long haul, guys. I'm sure we can find owners who are interested in and committed to this league. If not, we can move it down to an 8 team league for a season or so.

By the way, I get first dibs on keeping the perpetual trophy if the league folds!!! (Especially since I still haven't received last year's champion's plate for the trophy!).

Nothing else going on here. Not even sure what you're insinuating, but as far as I know we're all free to come and go when we please. Chill out, as I've heard on this board many times, this is supposed to be for fun.

If I were a remaining member of this league, I'd be extremely concerned about who's going to step up and do the work that Brian and Jason have been doing - I doubt it's going to happen. Consider this a call out for somebody to prove me wrong.

If Joel is in a one-man division next year, I say he's the favorite, but not a shoo-in. He could find a way to screw it up ;)

Just saying that having all 3 of you guys leave at the same time is no coincidence. Maybe if Brian left 1st then you two followed next year or it was gradual it would be more believable, but I find it hard to see a reason for all 3 of you leaving.

As a league we allowed you guys to re-align divisions to play against each other. As you guys all stated you were in it for the long haul. So what are the chances that ALL THREE of you decide to skip out on the league at the same time?

There has to be something between the time you guys pushed for re-alignment to now that would force ALL THREE of you to leave at the same time. I don't know what it is but there is something else other than "not enjoying the league" due to time constraints.

Popes October 16th, 2008 05:05 PM

Re: Frenzy off-season changes

Avengers misunderstood what you were getting at.

Yes, "not enjoyable anymore" is true but is also my way of exiting a situation I no longer want to be in without hurling bombs that make life miserable for the remaining people. I have no desire to make things tougher than they need to be for you guys (because replacing three people is tough as it is), so I will not air dirty laundry.

Just looking to exit gracefully and let you guys play on...
