BAY AREA, CA - The Insects continued their infusion of talent today by drafting RB Rashard Mendenhall with the 3rd overall selection. This comes just under a week after the Insects added college superstar Darren McFadden to a backfield to team with the electrifying Maurice Jones-Drew.

"We're just glad to add another young talented RB to the roster. He is the complete package at RB - speed, power, jukes, good hands. He can become a feature back in the league and that's what we needed," said GM Frank Alonzo.

Asked what they expect out of Mendenhall after trading for MJD and drafting McFadden, Alonzo said, "We expect him to come in an compete for a starting spot. We have two spots and 3 great runners.... 3 young, explosive, and game changing runners. He's a potential franchise back, but the great thing is with Maurce and McFadden also on the roster, he's doesn't have to feel the pressure to produce right away. He's in a great situation and a great addition to our team."

The rumors have said the Insects had wanted to trade the pick after Johnathan Stewart was taken, but recieved no significant offers other than mild interest from the defending champions with the 12th pick. To which Alonzo responded:

"Yes we did field offers after Stewart was taken, but every team in the league would do the same. It is not an indication of the Rashard's talent level, we think very highly of him and that's why our demands were so steep for right to draft him."

After being informed of the selection, Rashard Mendenhall said, "I'm so happy to be drafted by the Insects. They're building a real special team not just for the future, but this season. If DMC and I can play how we know we can play... we'll be a legitimate contender. We've got great QBs in Hassellbeck, Eli, and Delhomme. Then our recievers with Boldin, Wayne, Uncle Joey, and Kelln Winslow!! Wow. I'm get hyphy, just thinking about it."

The rejuvenation continues for the Insects after a dismal season last year marked by injuries and inconsistent play. If these young rookie RBs are able break big plays this young team will be a force to reckon with.
