This signing put Bloodsuckers over the 65 year limit. He will be assessed a 20% salary penalty and can't big on Crosby for 30 days from time of sale.

Can a waiver claim be placed here? Also, what are the years that Mason is signed for?

Well, I'm going to say the player goes back to the UFA pool and is not eligible for waiver claims. Pretty sure that's how the penalty is stated in the rules (though without checking, I could be wrong).

Seeing as this was a roster violation, the violating team certainly shouldn't be eligible to get waiver claim credit off the cap penalty.

The rule states:
"If the player in question was acquired via free agency, the player will be released back into the free agency pool, and the penalties will be assessed, based on the number of previous infractions."

So pretty clear he becomes a FA again and can only be obtained via the bidding process.
