2.07 DE Gaines Adams - Tampa Bay

Maybe high for a DL, but M. Williams went at 2.2 last season.
4th overall pick, a vicious DE on a nasty D.

What... you couldn't find another OSU player for this pick? ;)

Funny.
I'm not as much of a :homer as it appears.

If A. Gonzalez went to Tennessee, I wouldn't have taken him 1.11.
I was looking at Jarrett or Gonzalez, and it was height vs speed.
Character won. I think Gonzo will have a long, steady career, and
will hopefully be my WR3 for a few of those years.

There was no chance of me not taking Smith. It's approaching when he went in Frenzy, and the man has the heart of Evander Holyfield. He has willed his team to victory so many times. He's got the same highlight tapes as Ginn.

Will any of it translate to the next level? Who ever knows. I do know this...
He's 3-0 vs Michigan, 3-0 vs Drew Stanton, and 1-0 vs Brady Quinn.

From here on out, I'll leave the Buckeyes to you fellas.
Though Roy Hall is tall and strong and went to Indy...
and Jay Richardson went in the 5th to Oakland....

Hmmmmm...

Considering the overall talent disparity of the teams aside from the QBs, excuse me if I don't find this impressive.

Wow Brian. Usually you think things through, but this just kinda tumbled out your rear end.

Talent diaparity between OSU and Michigan? Maybe between those two schools and your beloved Penn State, but come on now. Michigan was undefeated and #2 in the country with the nations best defense last year when they played. Four of their defensive starters were drafted in the first 2 rounds. (Woodley, Branch, Hall, Harris). Michigan and OSU recruit the same players. Two years ago we were down double digits at Michigan, late in the 4th and he won.

As for Quinn, that was the Fiesta Bowl. Sucky teams don't make BCS Bowl games.

I can see why you don't find this impressive, though, seeing as how you drafted Stanton and all.

Know what I find impressive? This play vs Penn State last season...

Anyhow, you're excused.

Troy Smith doesn't need to impress either one of us. Seeing as how we are working slobs from 9-5+ while "drafting" the likes of Tony Hunt and Antonio Pittman while those guys are making 10x as much at the league minimum.

Puh-leeze. Was Michigan good this year? Sure, they were a great team. You can't deny that OSU was better. Look at the Michigan skill position players, and then look at OSU's. They're not even close. Yes, Michigan's defense was better than OSU's, but anyone who follows college football knwos that a good offense will beat a good defense. OSU had great skill position players and won the game. I haven't bothered to look it up, but I'll even assume Smith had a good game. Good for him. He was on the better team, and should have won.

I notice you didn't go into detail about how great Michigan State was, that perrenial super power of the Big 10. Why not? Just because they have an NFL drafted QB, we're all supposed to respect what a great team they are, and how big it is for Troy Smith to go out and beat them all by himself?

If you're going to even claim that Notre Dame has anywhere near the talent of OSU at any time Troy Smith and Brady Quinn were both in school, you're delusional and we can stop the converstation right here. The main reason Notre Dame was competitive ever was Quinn. Any average college QB could have stepped in at OSU and kept them competitive. Was Smith a great college QB that made OSU better? Sure, I wouldn't argue that, but that doesn't add anything to his NFL resume.

But hey, if all it took to prove a QBs greatness was winning against other teams, why wasn't Peyton Manning just written off since he could never beat Florida. Maybe because TEAMS win games, not players.

I have no beef with Troy Smith. I think he's in a good situation as he said, but I'm not ready to bank on his NFL success based on playing on one of the most talented offensive teams in the country for the last few years.

Edited to add: Yeah, keep coming with the PSU rips. They are all so creative, and even relevant. The fact that I like PSU, I'm a fan of one of the greatest college football coaches ever, and I'm dedicated to my team has a lot to do with my football talent evaluation abilities. I'm not going to be ashamed or take offense because I'm not a bandwagon jumper.

Skill Positions? Michigan has Mario Manningham and Mike Hart, both juniors who we'll be drafting in Frenzy and SAC'D next year. QB Chad Henne was a 3 year starter. The teams were dead even. Good game for Smith? How's 29 of 41 for 316 yards 4 TD and 1 pick? I believe Michigan was giving up in the neighborhood of 150 in the air, and 30 on the ground per game through their first 11 games. Yeah, good for him. The homefield advantage accounted for the 3 point difference. The final score is what made OSU better.

Nah...I didn't go into detail. MSU is an average program at best. And so is Stanton IMO. I watched him for years, and he's just a guy. Did Smith do more with more? Sure. I never said he beat them by himself. Stanton had an average career on an average team. Shoot, your Vikings drafted Tyler Thigpen at QB in the 7th round. Being an "NFL drafted QB" doesn't hold a lot of weight.

Scoreboard > Talent. And ND has the great Charlie Weiss. <sarcasm>
Sure OSU had better "talent", because the scoreboard says so. Quinn grew up in my town. I have nothing against him. His height makes him a better pro prospect. Sure, he had ND playing better than they should have been, but they also never won a big game. No bowl wins, Never beat SC. I hope he does great as a pro so I don't have to hear more whining from the Browns fans around here. But point taken. Quinn made ND better. As did Smith. MSU sucked with or without Drew Stanton.

Thanks for the coachspeak JoePA. Again, I never said that Troy Smith won every game by himself. I just put up some stats to make my selection interesting. YOU were the one who was not impressed. I never said that Troy was going to dominate at the pro level either. I just said he's a good QB with a big heart and I like his situation in Baltimore.

Come on, bro. I'm sure there is video on youtube of Poz sacking Smith or something. It's no rip, it's just fun.

I would hope that as Big Ten fans we could have some fun with each other, so I really hope you're not taking offense.

A PSU fan has nothing to be ashamed of. The white outs at Happy Valley are something to behold, and even the Omnipotent Troy Smith lost a game there.

I also hope that your reference to a bandwagon jumper was for yourself sticking with your team no matter what, rather than implying that I am a bandwagon jumper. I hope that very much, because OSU is a 10 minute drive from my house.

Thus concludes a long and boring argument. Lets just agree to disagree about Smith. I know how drawn out your battles get on here, and I don't feel like dragging OSU/PSU/Smith/JoePa and the rest of the Big10 through the mud so we can come to the conclusion that both Smith and Stanton are long shots at best.

I like my guy, you like yours, case closed.
Nothin' but love for ya Brian.

Cheezy, I can go point by point right back at you, but apparently that's not what you want (you're probably just scared of the can o' whoop ass I'd open up). I'll just respond to this one comment:

YOU were the one who was not impressed.
You're right. I wasn't. That was the begining and end of my post (other than pointing out OSU's superior talent). My post was two sentences long, and you came out with a diatribe against all things good, Dodgerly, and holy. I'm not sure where the "whoa, back up the bus and chill out" attitude comes from, since you're the one coming out swinging.

Yes, my battles can get drawn out here, but that's 'cause I'm having fun. Of course I'm not offended, or PO'd at you. It's all in good fun. I wouldn't be checking this stupid board every half hour to see if Kevin Walter got bumped in the Frenzy if I wasn't having fun. It's all good.

:GoodPost Point taken.

Maybe the #10 Smith jersey hanging in my closet had something to do with that...

Keep it hanging there, and in about 10 years it will be as rediculous as the DJ Dozier jersey (collection) in my closet.

And if Robinson had started at QB for his Junior year also, I'm sure he'd be there as well...
