SACD Rules Vote - Move Open of RFA bidding

Vote above to push back the opening of RFA bidding for Preds (since he'll be out of it)

Vote yes to push back start date to April 23rd (this would also push back other key dates that would otherwise overlap). Vote NO to keep date as they are defined in the rules. This would be a one year move only, not permanent.

You should vote for the MLB-style playoffs since you are a PITA

I voted yes for this year and was wondering if it would make sense to make this change permanent?

Only because I haven't had time to do the research to determine what impact it's going to have on everything else we do. Since this is the most time consuming activity of the offseason, we need to allow for enough time to finish it up, and have enough time for everything else (i.e Rookie draft). Seems like there would be enough time, but can't say for sure.

Re: Move Open of RFA bidding

The biggest effect I think it would have to permanently move it back is that normally we have to declare our RFA's before there is any movement in the free agent market. This year we're going to have a few weeks at least to see where some players move to. I'm not saying if this is good or bad, but maybe we want to go through the process this year and see how we like it.

I think it makes sense to go through it this year and then determine the course of action for the future. Good call!

FYI - we still need votes from:
Crestone Needles (Doggler)
The Wallace Clan of Elderslie (Cheezy)

I sent him a PM directly asking that the other day, but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm guessing he's back...

For the moron's among us :loser. Can we get all of the dates of importance laid out? I am guessing that they will be the same for the Frenzy and the SAC'd. TIA!

Thursday April ?? at 11:59pm - 2007 RFA Declarations are Due

Thursday April ?? at 11:59pm - 2006 Soft Cap Period Ends

Friday May ?? at 12:00am - 2007 Hard Cap Period Begins

Friday May ?? at 12:00am - 2007 RFA Bidding Opens

Saturday May ?? at 11:59pm - 2007 RFA Bidding Closes

Monday June ?? at 12:00am (the 2nd Monday in May each year) this allows about 3 weeks for the NFL draft to be evaluated - 2007 Rookie Draft Begins

June ?? at 12:00am - this date will also be somewhat flexible in that as it would not open until 48 hours after the rookie draft has been completed - Opening of the UFA period

Well, since I am new Commish, I guess I'll throw these dates out, and unless someone comes up with a big hole in the dates, we'll go with the following:

Thursday April 26 at 11:59pm - 2007 RFA Declarations are Due

Sunday April 29th at 11:59pm - 2006 Soft Cap Period Ends

Monday April 30 at 12:00am - 2007 Hard Cap Period Begins

Monday April 30 at 12:00am - 2007 RFA Bidding Opens

Thursday May 31 at 11:59pm - 2007 RFA Bidding Closes

Monday June 4 at 12:00am (the 2nd Monday in May each year) this allows plenty of time for the NFL draft to be evaluated - 2007 Rookie Draft Begins

Friday June 29 at 12:00am - this date will also be somewhat flexible in that as it would not open until 48 hours after the rookie draft has been completed - Opening of the UFA period

All other dates should be fine after this.

Re: SACD Rules Vote - Move Open of RFA bidding

I guess now that I've posted these dates, one date concerns me. Opening UFA bidding on June 29th only gives us 2 months before September 6th, which is opening day in NFL...is that long enough to finish up UFA bidding to the point of everyone having enough for starting lineups? Granted if we have a turbo rookie draft, in which everyone posts their picks as quickly as humanly possible, we could start the UFA process earlier. Thoughts?

Re: SACD Rules Vote - Move Open of RFA bidding

I think we'll be fine. We may have a more aggressive UFA (less nickle and dime) than normal due to a shorter period of time to deal with but everyone should be able to flesh out their rosters. Of course the quicker we get through the rookie draft the sooner we can start UFA.

Re: SACD Rules Vote - Move Open of RFA bidding

Agree with the swords on this one. We won't have nearly as many UFAs as last year, so I think 2 months will be sufficient. The Frenzy UFA period is usually pretty slow, so I have no worries.

I think we should be in good shape here.
