2012 frenzy playoffs

Well, it's that time of the year again... the Frenzy Fantasy League PLAYOFFS!
:jump::party::jump:
Here's the end-of-the-regular-season final standings (top to bottom):
1. Bad Dogs (11-3)... CENTRAL CHAMPIONS
2. Mosquitoes (10-4)... EAST CHAMPIONS
3. Burners (8-6)... WEST CHAMPIONS
4. Derby Cars (9-5)
5. Liquid Swords (8-6)
6. Predators (8-6)... (NOTE: Swords beat Preds in week 6 to win tiebreaker)
7. Scorpions (7-7)
8. Rabid Llamas (6-8)
9. Freedom (6-8)... (NOTE: Llamas beat Freedom in week 9 to win tiebreaker)
10. Greatshepski (5-9)
11. Mighty Chunks (4-10)
12. Opihi (2-12)

SO here's how the playoff scenarios look:
FRENZY BOWL... :champ::champ::champ:
Game 1: Derby Cars host Liquid Swords
Game 2: Burners host Preds
(Byes: Bad Dogs & Mosquitoes)

TOILET BOWL... :loser::loser::shit::loser::loser:
Game 1: Greatshepski host Chunks
Game 2: Freedom host Opihi
(Byes: Scorpions & Llamas)

Reminder: Both playoff brackets will affect the final standings (and subsequent 2013 draft picks). In case you've forgotten how the Toilet Bowl lottery works, you can read about it here.

Will update MFL site soon.

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

MFL website updated with the brackets.
Don't forget the home field advantage points that go to the home team in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs.

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

Toilet Bowl was structured different last year. Teams were ranked 1 thru 6 with worst team #6. first round was 6 vs 3 and 4 vs 5. 1 and 2 got a bye.

Well, last year was first year of Toilet Bowl, but Bobby is right...here's the link:

the worst teams get more chances of getting more balls in the lottery...

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

I have a question on the play off pairings. I thought it was always highest seed vs lowest seed or maybe thats just the NFL and not Frenzy? The second round pairings don't reflect this (unless the Predators loose). I'm new to the playoffs and never looked that close before.

Royal Hawaiian Opihi December 6th, 2012 01:01 PM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

We had to put something in to get the brackets listed. We'll rearrange if need be before the second round. But yes, higher seeds play lower seeds.

Preds December 6th, 2012 01:01 PM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

With MFL you have to reset the pairings each round. Don't worry about the grid.

Love the cruise line tycoon line, quite fitting since I am AGAIN heading out on the Norwegian Epic today and will be at sea watching the games!

My battle with Matt is going down to the wire. Including the home field advantage for the Freedom, I'm down by like 8 points going into tonight's game with Hernandez as my TE. Will he play?!!? Will he be able to catch the ball? Stay tuned... might be a squeaker in the Toilet Bowl!

Thanks, it was a hard fought game. I think it might just be my first playoff win after all these years.

I am glad Gronk was not playing because it probably would have been completely different.

Burt... not sure about 7 points in the toilet bowl, I just assumed.
I LIKE the 7 point home field rule... as it's a TINY reward for having a better regular season. That should count for something.
I'll look at last year's site and see if 7 points were added to the toilet bowl games. Maybe I misspoke.

Royal Hawaiian Opihi December 10th, 2012 06:54 PM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

Yes they were given last year for the Toilet Bowl.
In the first round, none of the games were decided by the 7 points.
In the second, however, the LLAMAS beat GREATSHEPSKI 121.5 to 115.45, and the 7 points are what got them into the finals.
So there's precedent.

I'm an advocate for the home Field Advantage. Even though its against me right now the higher seeds deserve a slight advantage IMO. If I lose to Bobby next week because of it, so be it. Next time I better earn the higher seed myself to get the advantage. Just as a real NFL team does when they host a playoff game.

Royal Hawaiian Opihi December 11th, 2012 03:08 AM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

Well, the results of playoff week one are in.
In the FRENZY BOWL bracket... the #6 seeded Preds saved their best offensive production for the playoffs, putting up 200 points against the Burners. Heck, the Burners 139 points was the lowest (go figure!) of all 4 championship bracket teams.
In the other quarter final game, the Swords recorded 148 points, AND STILL LOST! Yikes. Everyone in this bracket brought their A-game! So the Derby Car advance after their 159 output.

The semifinals are set: #1 Bad Dogs will host the #6 Preds... and the #2 Mosquitoes will host the #4 Derby Car.

In the TOILET BOWL bracket... the #6 Opihi, on a strong MNF performance from Aaron Hernandez, rack up 123 points (highest in the bottom bracket, but still would have lost to anyone in the champions bracket this week), and beat the Freedom (110) to move on to face the #1 seeded Scorpions.

And in what can only be seen as "poetic justice," the #4 Greatshepski... who was on the losing end of a 7-point home field advantage playoff game, held on to beat defending champion (and #5 seed) Chunks, 104.6 to 102.75... thanks to his +7 point advantage. RB Arian Foster needed a 22 point performance under the bright lights of MNF, but came up 2 points short. He'd been averaging over 24 points per game on the season, and it looked like the Chunks would pull this win out. But with the Texans falling behind quickly & needing to pass, pass, pass... Foster saw only 15 carries, when he'd been toting the rock, on average, 23 times per game this season. Greatshepski will face the #2 seed
Rabid Llamas in the semifinals.

What will week 2 bring? Stay tuned!

Well, the Frenzy Bowl is a whole other matter, but I am advocate to start with eliminating the 7 point home field advantage in Toilet Bowl. The reason we even discussed adding a Toilet Bowl was to prevent teams with bad luck, or lazy owners, to tank the season to guarantee a #1 pick in rookie draft. So we added a playoff, which makes them put their best team forward to try to win more games to get more picks. Then we pour it on with an additional 7 point hole to dig out of. Seems vicious and cruel to me....

It depends on your view of better regular season. I outscored everyone in the league. I just happened to be unlucky in that I had more points scored against me than any team (except Bad Dogs) had points scored for.

Burt the Butcher December 11th, 2012 09:56 AM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

So to date - through 2nd round Toilet Bowl:

Opihi 25 + 5 + 5balls
Chunks 15 balls
Shep 10 + 5 + 5 balls
Freedom 7 balls
Llamas 5 balls
Scorpions 3 balls

Philadelphia Freedom December 11th, 2012 12:56 PM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

I would vote to abolish the whole toilet bowl concept or at least make it possible for teams that are part of it to bid on FA's. In theory I am playing for something but could not pick-up a decent (or as decent as the waiver wire would allow) QB. Oh, well good luck to Jim as it looks like A. Hernandez scored more than enough to carry you forward.

Burt the Butcher December 11th, 2012 03:30 PM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

I agree Matt...it was instilled to try to discourage people from tanking...I really do not think, with the group we have right now, that tanking is even a consideration. It does penalize teams who have been hit hard with injuries, and find it hard to throw up a decent lineup each week.

pretty sure Bobby would agree to abolish it also....

Bounty Hunter December 11th, 2012 03:51 PM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

I'm all for abolishing it. Last year I felt like I got penalized and the only thing I did wrong was be really bad at FF.

Royal Hawaiian Opihi December 11th, 2012 04:47 PM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

Agreed that it was set up to prevent teams from tanking. A few years back, we had some VERY INACTIVE owners, and it was a challenge to see if they were taking it seriously. That's definitely not the case.

I love everything fantasy football related... so HATE not being in some kind of competition during the "postseason." I'm fine with eliminating the toilet bowl for draft purposes, but would love to allow us "bottom feeder" teams to field a few more weeks of competition - just for fun!

Definitely for the LOSER.
Maybe they'd have to put "FRENZY LOSER 2012" in their signature for the next year!
Who'd be the suckiest team for the year? Great concept.
Of course, I'd be in the running this year... if we were doing it.

they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

Nice work Nate. Good Luck in the Championship Matchup.

Overall, a very disappointing end to the Mosquitoes season. Danario and Charles both disappear when it matters most. Charles goes from 5 straight games of over 100 yds and 20+ touches to 28 yds on 12 touches. Danario....ZERO, wow. He puts up good numbers against fairly good defenses the last 4 weeks (Broncos, Ravens, Bengals, Steelers) then throws out a goose-egg against the Panthers?? Because of the home field advantage...I basically came up 3 pts short....oh well. That's how it works out sometimes.

Preds December 18th, 2012 09:45 AM

Congrats Bobby!

Congrats to Bobby and his Bad Dogs. In the end, it was a close game, but it wasn't meant to be for my Preds.

I could have and should have won this week, particularly since on Sunday at noon I had made the decision to input Blair Walsh into my starting lineup over Tynes, but when it came time to hit submit I talked myself out of it because I felt I was over-thinking it. Who knew the Giants would be shut out and Walsh would have a career week. Sucked leaving his 26+ points on the bench, especially since I talked myself out of putting him in the lineup, but it is what it is! It wasn't meant to be.

I am at least proud that I saved my 2 best weeks of the season for the playoffs and certainly gave you a run for your money. I look forward to the 2013 season.

Best of luck to both the Dogs and Derby Car's in the Frenzy Bowl (though I have to admit that I'll be pulling for Nate since he's an original founding member of the league and has certainly paid his dues over the years)!

Happy Holidays to everyone, I'll see you in the spring (assuming this Mayan calendar thing is a farce...) :D

Thanks Mike for backing me and I agree it is my time. I need all I can get out of my team because my games against the Dogs this year have not gone my way. I am ready for that trophy, sorry Burt but shipping costs may be high to Indiana.

It was a great game, Scott. I was very scared of that Charles vs Raiders matchup with the way he had been running lately.

Burt the Butcher December 19th, 2012 09:20 AM

Nate, I would have no problem sending it out to a Division mate...either way...good luck to you both!!

Bounty Hunter December 19th, 2012 10:42 AM

Re: 2012 frenzy playoffs

Nate, Looks like you have the advantage in this one as the bookies have installed the Derby Cars as a 10.2 point favorite. The Cam Newton vs Raiders matchup could be problematic for the underDogs.

Good luck and may both teams have injury free games.
