Sorry, that was my early pre-work glance at the board. Picked now and you can all wake up to the obvious pick.

Preds and one other made excellent offers, in truth I may be an idiot for turning down Preds way over the top proposal, however if you have a high pick and you need an RB you need to take the best you can get no matter what. If Lynch works out I will be able to reduce my overall spend on RBs and use it to fix my issues and WR and TE. Unfortunately, without a large slice of luck I only expect mid table respectability this year but I will at least be able to be competitive (barring injury)

Undervalued RB's are extremely difficult to come by. I offered as much as I could justify, but IMO (as much as it pains me to say), in your shoes, I think you still made the right call.

You landed a player with a great ability, attitude, work ethic and opportunity. By all reports Lynch is an extremely high character player. Prototypical Marv Levy player.

Now I gotta face him twice a year. Dang!

Not neccessarily I kind of figured by default you would take a WR and then probably a RB or a QB so one of the two of them would fall to 1.06.

None of the remaining RB's stood out as potential elite RB's, and with Leinart in the stable, I have good to great upcoming youth at the QB position. I'm ridiculously deep at TE, thus WR was really the position I needed to target in this draft.

I wanted guys with the potential to be elite fantasy WR's, not just average ones. Both Meachem and Rice come with risk, but also have the biggest potential of the WRs to stand out in this class when all is said and done, and that includes Calvin Johnson who landed in WR purgatory.

Had he fallen to 1.4 I woulda taken CJ, but honestly, I think Meachem and Rice have much better opportunities in front of them, and talent wise aren't that far off.

You're insane. CJ has more talent than Rice, and is in a better situation. They aren't even close.

Yes, Millen is an idiot, but he can't prevent CJ from showing his talent. As long as Martz is in town (which, granted, may not be long), CJ is in a class of his own among the WRs.

That can be your contention, but you can't logically contend that Minnesota is a better situation for a WR than Detroit, just by invoking Millen's name. There is nothing better in MN, other than lack of competition, than Detroit.

Roy Williams is a huge issue for me as is the quagmire that is the Detroit Lions. The best hope for CJ is to share WR1 duties, whereas Rice has the door wide open to become a clearcut WR1 in a young likely emerging offense with a much better backfield. The QB's are a toss up, but I'll take the emerging Jackson over Kitna.

As for Martz, lets see what happens when he leaves in a year. The Detroit situation is a mess, we're talking 5 year contracts on these guys, and CJ is likely mired for at least a couple of those years as a WR2 behind Roy Williams on a team more likely to implode (again) long before they turn things around.

Unfortunately until Childress leaves town, there is no upside for the MN passing game. Martz may be gone in a year, and that could have an up or down effect on Det, but Childress is in MN for a couple of years (unless this year is absolutely abysmal). Childress is no passing guru. He wants to run, and nothing more.

As far as Roy Williams, if AZ can produce two dominant receivers, I see no reason why Detroit cannot. Heck, Furrey was a marginal FF producer last year, and he doesn't have anywhere near the talent of CJ. St. Louis, with the same offense, had two consistent FF contributors. Roy is not a detrement, and probably help prevent double teams. CJ will put up starter numbers sooner, and better numbers than Rice over the next five years. Take that to the bank.

We can look back 5 years from now and see how much seperation there is... I suspect there won't be nearly as much as you think.

As I said earlier, had CJ fallen I woulda taken him, but Rice and Meachem are not THAT far off from him IMO. Time will tell which of us ends up right.

I'm just teasing... it's all good, heck, I don't pick again for a while, and Jake hasn't been heard from in 10 days, so I wonder if we'll be waiting around 24 hours after your pick anyhow. Don't hurry yourself, take your time.

As for my previous comment on the valuation of players at this point, the 4-18 picks are very difficult to order in this years draft and really come down to a matter of preference and to some degree need. 1 or 2 players stand out among the current players available, but it comes down to whether or not it's a position of need and if the value is really there.

Anyhow, with Jake's status up in the air, take your time. I sent him a PM to give him a headsup that he was on deck, and also PMd Nate to see if he can give him a call and alert him to the draft being underway. Hopefully he's around and can participate.

FYI...just spoke w/ Jake (mutts) and he will be making his pick shortly.

This means I will not be available for the 1.9 until after work which will be around 5:30 pst or so.

I have restricted internet access at work and surprisely when I try to pull up this site it is blocked as "entertainment". We certainly would want me to entertain myself at work now would we.
