2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Because I know we'll all have LOTS to say about the picks...
:feedback |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
I'll say it, the 1st mistake of the draft has already been made. ;)
|
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Yep... Calvin Johnson's a no-brainer! ;)

Ah... never could remember who had who.
So... 1.02????? |

I offered my 1.4, 1.5 and 08 2nd for 1.2 but got shot down. Oh well. Lets roll! |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Oh yah... the UK factor.
I might still get to see the 1.02 before I go to sleep tonight here in Hawaii (still another 6+ hours away!). :popcorn |

Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Sorry, that was my early pre-work glance at the board. Picked now and you can all wake up to the obvious pick.
Preds and one other made excellent offers, in truth I may be an idiot for turning down Preds way over the top proposal, however if you have a high pick and you need an RB you need to take the best you can get no matter what. If Lynch works out I will be able to reduce my overall spend on RBs and use it to fix my issues and WR and TE. Unfortunately, without a large slice of luck I only expect mid table respectability this year but I will at least be able to be competitive (barring injury) |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Quote:
You landed a player with a great ability, attitude, work ethic and opportunity. By all reports Lynch is an extremely high character player. Prototypical Marv Levy player. Now I gotta face him twice a year. Dang! |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
For the losers among us who can't access the draft tracker could some post the current order (I will update with trades as needed).
Looks like we are off and the fun can begin. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Preds throw me two curve balls with picks 1.04 and 1.05. However, I have had some interest in pick 1.06 so I will need to wait to hear back before posting (or trading) the pick. I apologize in advance for the delay.

What's the deal with Mutts, if Matt makes his pick? Has anyone talked to him? Will he be picking, or do we have a list for him?

I wanted guys with the potential to be elite fantasy WR's, not just average ones. Both Meachem and Rice come with risk, but also have the biggest potential of the WRs to stand out in this class when all is said and done, and that includes Calvin Johnson who landed in WR purgatory. |

'nuff said. Had he fallen to 1.4 I woulda taken CJ, but honestly, I think Meachem and Rice have much better opportunities in front of them, and talent wise aren't that far off. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Quote:
Yes, Millen is an idiot, but he can't prevent CJ from showing his talent. As long as Martz is in town (which, granted, may not be long), CJ is in a class of his own among the WRs. |

Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Quote:
As for Martz, lets see what happens when he leaves in a year. The Detroit situation is a mess, we're talking 5 year contracts on these guys, and CJ is likely mired for at least a couple of those years as a WR2 behind Roy Williams on a team more likely to implode (again) long before they turn things around. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Quote:
As far as Roy Williams, if AZ can produce two dominant receivers, I see no reason why Detroit cannot. Heck, Furrey was a marginal FF producer last year, and he doesn't have anywhere near the talent of CJ. St. Louis, with the same offense, had two consistent FF contributors. Roy is not a detrement, and probably help prevent double teams. CJ will put up starter numbers sooner, and better numbers than Rice over the next five years. Take that to the bank. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Quote:
As I said earlier, had CJ fallen I woulda taken him, but Rice and Meachem are not THAT far off from him IMO. Time will tell which of us ends up right. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
What's the hold up??? Damn Mutts... :)
|
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Ooops, wrong team...my bad.
|
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Sorry, I am still waiting to hear back from the team that sent me a PM about pick 1.06. If I do not hear back by 3pm EST I will post my pick.
|

Matt's hoping for the miracle draft day trade to keep him from having to choose from among 10 equal prospects. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
My pick is ready to go. However, someone sent me a PM prior to the draft starting about the pick and I am interested in learning more about what they had in mind. If by 3pm I have not heard back my pick will be posted (or as soon thereafter as I have a meeting at 2pm).

Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Quote:
As for my previous comment on the valuation of players at this point, the 4-18 picks are very difficult to order in this years draft and really come down to a matter of preference and to some degree need. 1 or 2 players stand out among the current players available, but it comes down to whether or not it's a position of need and if the value is really there. Anyhow, with Jake's status up in the air, take your time. I sent him a PM to give him a headsup that he was on deck, and also PMd Nate to see if he can give him a call and alert him to the draft being underway. Hopefully he's around and can participate. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
I completely agree about the next 10 or so prospects, unfortunately my next pick at 2.01 comes after the next drop off in talent and opportunity.

Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
Well, I'm holding out the hope taht 11 previously competent drafters all get a brain freeze over the next 2 days and collectively decide to let one of the very decent mid round WRs drop
|
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
FYI...just spoke w/ Jake (mutts) and he will be making his pick shortly.
This means I will not be available for the 1.9 until after work which will be around 5:30 pst or so. I have restricted internet access at work and surprisely when I try to pull up this site it is blocked as "entertainment". We certainly would want me to entertain myself at work now would we. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
I'm back in the country and ready for the draft guys ... I'm waiting to hear back on a proposal, but will be sure my pick is made before SBDC gets off work at 8:30 eastern.

Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
This has got to be the worst draft of my life.
Russell, Bush, and Bowe... all taken before me. Aaaarrrghhh. I guess I have to make that trade now. |
Re: 2007 Rookie Draft Commentary
I'm going to guess the Popes won't be picking for a few hours. He's in central time, not working, so he's probably sleeping for a while yet.
