Rookie Draft: Take 3

I'm sure the debate will continue here as well.

I think we should stop voting, and determine if anyone is going to flop back to vote for no rookie draft before we decide on what kind we're going to do.

Mike, there's a new thread about the whole stupid debate. should there be a separate rookie draft or in with auction of vets.

Abstaining for the wrong reasons is unacceptable. I expect more from you.

me too...at least until the recount on KEEPING ROOKS WITH VETS.

Is it legal to lobby at the polling stations?

If so, remember:
For the best, keep the rooks with the vets.

Why? If it comes down to it where my vote will make a difference one way or another then I'll vote, but for now I plan to sit back and see what develops like others have chosen to do in some of the other polls.

If we're going to be having the inequity of a draft, then screw it... I vote Standard Serpentine: 1-12, 12-1, 1-12, etc

Thanks for thinking of the best interests of the league, Mike!

Now that we locked a draft down we just need a few more votes to knock this one out too.

Re: Rookie Draft: Take 3

what's the logic behind this 1-12, 12-1, 12-1, 12-1 crap?

if it goes this way will everyone here give me the #12 pick? This draft is so deep when including IDP that #12 and #11 will reap the most talent. #1, 2, and 3 get shallacked and are forced to take a RB in the 1st round

Because rookie drafts are top heavy, even with the IDPs. What do you think the over/under is for the spot at which the first IDP is taken?

There are people who will be happy with the top picks. I think I would be happy drafting just about anywhere in this type of draft.

Normally, I'd be in support of a standard serpentince, but the #1 pick is by far the most valuable.

If it's a two round serpentine draft, which slot do you want?

We have more than two rounds so that question is worth less than the hot carl I shat in the corner. I just believe that all slots in a normal serpentine draft are of equal value.

So with at 1-12, 12-1, 12-1, 12-1, are we going to keep this method year after year or will we then revert to a normal serpentine. I say if we are having a rookie draft this year we shouldn't change the the methodology the following season. Pick one methodology and use it for every successive season. Why screw with it the initial season and then change it for the next season?

The Immortal Ramirez April 22nd, 2005 01:03 PM

Re: Rookie Draft: Take 3

Reason it was changed was because people were complaining about how unfair it would be and felt it would be more 'even' if #1 pick didn't continue to get #1 pick

So you're proposing we should also go with the random pick generator each year also..the only way we stay consitant.

Rookie Drafts in DYnasty Leagues are generally 1-12 1-12 1-12 etc with the teams being ranked in reverse order of finish from the previous season. This is to allow the struggling teams an advantage to rebuild.

Two points. First, the reason I ask if we had a two round serpentine, where would you want to draft is because I assume you would rather be drafting out of the 1 spot, or at least higher. With only getting two players, getting one of the best players is even more critical. We eliminate the serpentince aspect after the 2nd round to increase the value of the later 1st round picks. Is it perfect? No, but I find it far more equal than a straight serpentine. I think there are a number of people who want to draft high, and others who want to draft low in this scenario.

Secondly, no we are not doing a serpentine, or this method in future years. We do a straight draft, worst from first just like the Frenzy. We are doing something modified the first year because we have no records to go on to do our normal draft, and some (like myself) dont feel a straight serpentine is balanced for a rookie draft.

no, the random pick generator is really the only way to set the draft order for the inagural season (how else would you determine the order). i'm also not too fond of using the generator to determine what draft position you want to "take"....whatever position it picks you in is what you should "get".

my 2 cents

What's not to like? The odds of being in a position you prefer are greatly inhanced with being able to choose your slot. If we just randomize the order, then whatever your worst case scnario slot is, you have a 1 in 12 chance of getting that position. With picking order, the odds of you getting that spot depend on you getting the 12th choice, and everyone else in the league agreeing that is the worst spot to draft out of. I know some people will pick at the top, others at the bottom, so unless the entire league wants to avoid the middle, and you as well, you're much more likely to get a position you're happy with.

I don't want to vote on it, but how about the following instead of the above:

1-12
12-1
12-1
1-12
12-1
1-12

Gives that last position the push it needs to even out, no?

Unless the generator gives you #12 and you have no choice

oh well. i'm done arguing. it's all because i just really don't like the idea of a rookie draft for the 1st season anyway. whatever ya'll decide, i'll live with.

have i said how much i despise a rookie draft this year? If not, I despise a rookie draft....why? no one will ever agree on a fair way to conduct it.

Got my sunscreen, got my beach umbrella. Of course I can't forget my flip-flops!

If it helps, please move my vote to which method would allow us to have a majority (I currently in the 1-12, 12-1, 12-1, 12-1, 12-1, 12-1 camp).
