only a few guys have IDP experience...

Myself, Rami, Pat, maybe a couple more.

My experience with IDP is fairly limited, I understand it, I've toyed with a few leagues, but nothing heavy duty like this will be.

my IDP was a redraft league about five years ago was the last time I played. I understand basics - but this is still new water for me.
If you watch football, you know which players O or D do well and then, whalah, you have someone to consider for your team...

RFA tags or contract extension... i really dont care... my preference would be contract extension.

My theory here is that... defensive players would be set at market value. However, since we are in a learning process we were limited to 1 year deals, so having a keeper system for the first year on defense rewards teams who snagged a player who outperformed their auction salary by giviving them the ability to give them more contract year that they possibly could have done if allowed to.

Basically it's 3 options for inagural contracts:

1. limit all to 1 year deals
2. limit all to 3 year deals
3. IOP no limits, IDPs 1 year deal with keeper option (from there you can talk abotu RFA or extension)

I would perfer option 3 as i see it as the best comprimise.

I have, although not in a contract league setting. The scoring tends to lean heavily to DB's and LB's, with only a small percentage of DL's making much of an impact. My experience at least. Deflected passes will help.

For me I'd either have 1 year deals or else my proposal.

My league was similar to this...by forcing us to play DL, that will put us in the same boat.

Re: Inaugural Contracts

for the vote Insects is asking, I would prefer 2, but option 3 is acceptable.

I think there is a 4th option, which would be no restrictions, and just jump in head first.

I'd prefer that or his option 3.

I've been involved in a redraft IDP league for the past 3 years:

...but this league will be another beast to contend with. Check out the link if your interested in seeing where defensive players went in a draft. Check out the 4 other conferences and their independent drafts too.

thanks a lot!
that means I'll get no work done tomorrow either!

Re: Inaugural Contracts

I agree that there is the 4th option. My vote would be for option 4 or 2, 3 would also be aceeptable ... even with being the newbie I don't like the 1st option.

BTW, for RFAs ... how many will we have and will there be restrictions on how many are offensive and how many are defensive (think there should be).

Skippy the One Eyed Beagle April 14th, 2005 05:00 PM

Re: Inaugural Contracts

I say put the 4 options up to vote. If none receive the 50% take the top 2 and revote...

Flaxwless April 14th, 2005 05:02 PM

Re: Inaugural Contracts

oh yah forgot about just jump ahead and start...

1. 1 year max
2. 3 year max
3. IOP no max, IDP 1 year w/ keepers
4. jump in

My vote would go.... 3 then 4... 1 and 2 are out of the question

One of the other 47 threads opened today discusses that (I think. I've lost track). Needless to say the exact number hasn't been determined yet.

#4 preferred here...but as you know a Guinness will easily persuade me in any direction

Re: Inaugural Contracts

My experience with IDPs is limited to a few fairly simple leagues. I'm learning with everyone else.

My preference is to just jump in. We started the Frenzy that way - and we've done pretty well with it. I also believe the Insects idea is very well thought out and completely sound. I won't protest either idea.

Re: Inaugural Contracts

I'll take 4, although I'd go with 3 (as long as we don't call them "Keepers"...let's keep our integrity here folks)....

I vote 4... then 3 if we HAVE to

Re: Inaugural Contracts

Even though I was the one that opened this can of worms I am thinking I would vote for 4.

Lets just have at it and see how it goes.

Fore !!!! Damn, I thought I was playing golf.

My 1st choice would be #4, but I don't hate #3

I'll take a Black & Tan

Vote at the top. If no choice gets majority, I will take top 2 or 3 and have another poll
